Confussed about RNY vs. DS

OK, I had a gastric bypass in 1980; it was an early form of RNY and I had a pouch and I had dumping and food sticking etc. I lost the weight and kept if off with diet and exercise for about 15 years. Then I got sick and couldn't exercise and that was the end of my weight control; I gradually gained back all the weight plus hypertension, sleep apnea and gout all the while still dumping if I drank any milk or ate any sugar. If I tried to eat a steak or some roast beef or raw veggies, they would stick in my stoma and I would end up puking it up. It all sucked.

I got a revision to DS 2 years ago and it's like heaven, I can eat like a normal person, there's no dumping, no food sticking and I've lost the weight and am maintaining without dieting; I love it.

You want the real story? Go read the "Regrets" board or the "Revision" board and see how many RNYers are looking for a revision or *****gret having RNY. See if you can find any DSer who is looking for a revision or *****grets having the DS; I doubt you will find one.

I've had both RNY and DS and IMO, RNY sucks rocks, DS just rocks. You want to diet for the rest of your life? If you do; get RNYed, of you want to eat like a naturally thin person and keep the weight off, get the DS.

I honestly cannot think of a single reason I would get RNY instead of DS, not one.

Dumping isn't the end of the world.  I get a little hot and tired and it goes away in 20 minutes.  It happends because I try to get in a little too much meat at lunch.

RNY works for me, DS works for you.  Why do DS'ers have to make a war out of every post?

Blazade, it's takes a Kooky kind of person to turn a tool into an eating disorder but you have done so with much apparent enthusiasm and parade it around as success.
FAIL!

I never called you a failure; you're a moron who thinks dumping is a good thing. You're so screwed up you think you're a success even though you dump every day ~ sheesh!

And yea, I really screwed up my first chance. My "first chance" gave me Hepatitis C after I almost bled to death from it, but even so I managed to keep the weight off for 15 years. It will be interesting to see how you and your dumping are doing in another 9 years.

The fact is that RNY is a crappy WLS and it's no help what so ever after the first year or two. The fact that you have to dump every day to keep the weight off is proof positive how ****ty it really is to live with.

Anything else you enjoy? Like maybe diarrhea or reactive hypoglycemia? How about B12 or Iron deficiency? Wouldn't you enjoy those too?

Sheesh; you really are stuck on stupid!

Why would you eat crap that makes you sick? Are you a Masochist?  Why are you trying to act like dumping is a good thing or a deterrant? Because in your case it ain't, cause you keep on eating doing it.

You arent making any sense.

First you claim that rny is good because fear of dumping keeps you compliant, then you claim that you dump daily, so obviously the fear isnt effective in keeping you compliant and then you say it isnt really a big deal. Well if it isnt a big deal then how is fear of it an effective deterrent?

Clearly you arent working your tool if you are causing yourself to dump daily and really?? eating a little extra meat during lunch? Thats sick and disgusting that anyone should want that.

Are you trying to punish yourself for something?

Kerry,

You must get sick of typing your story over and over again :) Its a great story and many can learn from it. However, if I were you I would save it in word and copy-paste. It will save your fingers :)

Thanks for taking time to help.
