OT- money stuff - just want to vent
I am so mad. And upset.
Things have been really, really tight financially since my nephew moved in. I am glad he is here, it's just very difficult financially. And I have been doing everything I possibly can to save money.
I get paid on a weird schedule because I'm a freelance writer. Basically I get paid when I finish jobs. So I might get a payment several times in one week, but the amount varies. Lately, I have been doing grocery shopping every few days because I never have enough money in my checking account to buy more than a few days' worth of food.
My partner likes to make sandwiches for lunch and he likes to eat them off paper plates. He thinks that's easier than having to wash dishes. But here's the thing. He hardly ever washes any dishes. I always do the dishes. I think he's done them once in the last two weeks. I do them every day. Sometimes twice a day, depending on how many breakfast and lunch dishes there are.
So right now we are out of paper plates. I went grocery shopping today but did not buy paper plates because it seemed like something we could do without since I hardly had enough money for food. When I came home, he was making a sandwich and complained about there not being any paper plates.
I asked how it was easier for him to eat on a paper plate when he is not the one that washes the dishes anyway. He said he was just trying to make things easier for me. But I am mad. How is it easier for me to have to spend money on paper plates when I hardly have money for food?
Argh!
That is all.

Yeah, well... he would tell me he would wa**** but then probably wouldn't and it would sit in the sink for a few days until I did it. But yes, a paper towel would work. Or just hold the stupid thing in your hand and don't set it down anywhere. Or hey, don't bother eating luch if you can't stand to eat on a plate.
Geez!
Geez!

I agree with you---paper plates are a terrible waste of money. He could go with a paper towel if he's just eating sandwiches, if he just can't BEAR to eat off a plate---but in your position, I'd tell him to eat off a plate and WASH IT HIMSELF. (*grin*) I feel your frustration.
I can't depend on my income, and DH's income pays all of the bills, and we're coming off a bad financial situation. It comes in cycles -- and sometimes I'm left with $5 in the bank and no milk.
Right now, I owe... I have no credit cards, and I have to wait to get paid to pay who I owe. AAAACK.

You remind me of my married days.....he never washed dishes after promising to at least take care of his own when I was on a big project...and he always dropped his clothes anywhere he felt like it...so I took to putting his dirty laundry on his driver seat....and on occasion a plate or pan.......heck it would have been easier to just wash the damn thing myself......but I was trying to make a point.....he would just toss the clothes or my pots/plates/pans into the back of his vehicle and drive around for days and weeks.....then I would have to go through and find my kitchen things and wash them anway.........auuuggghhhhhhhh!!!!! Glad I'm divorced!!!! Susan

To be fair, he's not always this bad... or not this bad about everything, anyway. I am having a really bad day today. I did not eat dinner tonight because I had no appetite because I was so upset so I told him and my nephew they had to wash the dinner dishes since I did not even eat. And guess what? They have not done it yet.

I feel your pain!
I spend so much time being irritated - but it never changes the thing/person I'm irritated with!
I have no answer for you - I'm still looking myself for the answer.
I have figured out that getting irritated doesn't change or help anything. I just haven't yet figured out how to keep from getting irritated.
I'm right there with you on the paper plates. I don't like to buy them. To me, they're a waste of money. I say use a real plate and wa**** unless you're on a picnic!
I've got lots of money saving ideas. Email me and I'll share what I've learned raising a family on not too much money.
