OT- money stuff - just want to vent

I would try applying for food stamps if you haven't already.  Having your nephew in your household now could put you over the edge into qualifying, or getting a higher amount.

I actually applied last week.  Apparently they have up  to 30 days to process your application unless you meet special criteria, which I don't, in which case they would only have one week to do it.  They will make it retroactive to the date you applied, though.

Oh, good.  I think that will be like a weight lifted from your shoulders to have a little less stress over money.  I hope they approve you.

I know I qualify for something now that my  nephew is with me.  I'm not sure how much but honestly, every little bit will help right now.

At some point, the plan is that we will have legal custody of him but right now he is still in the custody of child services.  When we get legal custody, we will qualify for a program called Kinship Care that will provide some money for several months that will be a big help.  But we have to have legal custody to qualify.

His mother also pays child support, although it is a very small amount.  However, we are waiting for the court order to go through that will send the money to us instead of child services.  I have no clue how long that might take.  But you know, courts can be slow.  His father is also supposed to pay child support but almost never does so that will be of little hellp.

I know ALL about money problems....check out this site http://www.angelfoodministries.com/ and see if you have a partipating organization in your area.  I have ordered a few times when the menus looked like something we could use.  The quality of everything has always been great and definitely saves money!

We ordered from them for the first time this month and will definately do it again.  We got a TON of food for just $54.  It was a huge help.

I feel for what your going through. My Husband trys to help me and so do the other kids but sometimes it gets so hard. I have my Grandson living with me now and of course I have to be here to watch him so now I am not working. What was suggested to me was to sign up through the County for Help. I didnt want to do it but it helps us out with the extras we have to buy now. He is 2 yrs old. So I signed up for Food, Money and Medical. It does not go by our Income at all, its called the Grandparents Grant. I am still waiting for them to get done with the Application. They can take up to 45 days but the Lady already told me that he qualifies because it goes by what assets and money he has. LOL he is only 2 so he has nothing like that. Trust me I go to the Dollar Store and to me paper plates are a waste of money but then I started buying them from the Dollar Store. Now I dont feel so bad spending that Dollar. So cheap this way. I get what I can from the Dollar Store....
