Can you get too much protein at once?
I asked the registered nurse at my doctors office (who by the way has also had RNY) this very questions and she said that it is okay to take in more than 30 grams of protein at a time. She said it is different for distal RNY's but for proximal it is okay. I try to take in shakes through out the day since our bodies need this to function properly. I have also incorporated a shake before I go to bed now since I go so many hours without anything in my system. I am feeling better since I have upped my protein intake. We need more protein etc., than people without this surgery since we have malabsorption issues to contend with now.
Just an FYI, distals would need even more than proxies as they are bypassed more like a DS. They have even less absorption than we do (lucky ducks...)
err. Sometimes. I'm hungry. Read a post about someone who is eating chick-fil-a and dammit if I don't want an 8-piece nugget and fry right about NOW.
