I am scheduled for RYN surgery on the 8th of April.  I have never heard any of this being mentioned so I was wondering after surgery do they have a binder around you? How about surgical hose?  I am excited but really scared of complications and a bundle of nerves.

Each surgeon varies with their belief on using an abdominal binder after RNY surgery. A lot of it will depend on your size, whether or not your surgery is done open or lap, and the closure device used (ie, steri strips, dermabond, sutures).

You should have TED/surgical hose on until at least 24 hours after surgery. You might also have SCDs in place as well.

Good luck.
