I am 6 days post op. I just came home from the hospital on Thursday. I lived on ice chips for the first 2 days and haven't eaten much since I have been home either. I went in and weighed today and had GAINED 7 lbs. Is this normal???? I am hoping that it is fluid or something from having surgery. I just hope this isn't going to be the norm from now on. I know I have been doing what i have been supposed to do. I don't get all my protein or water in but I definitely am not eating too much either.

It's not uncommon. They pump you full of fluids in the hospital and it takes a little while to lose it. Drink lots of water, that will help flu**** out.

Hi Tracy -
While it didn't happen to me, I have heard other OHers state that they had a weight gain immediately following the surgery and the #1 reason was the IVs.  Fear not ... those 7 lbs will be gone in no time.  Also, many of us were unable to get in the required protein and water for the first 30 days.  Just do your best and make sure that you never get dehydrated.

I gained 15 pounds after RNY.  When I started crying, the doctor told me to go home and pee it out.  Perfectly normal, it will be gone in a few days.

Thanks again for all of your input. I definitely got a little worried. I guess I need to stay away from those scales for a while..lol I was devastated when I saw that small gain. I've been doing so good and now this...I get most of my protein and water right now and I should do better once I get back to normal food. It's hard to do on a puree diet. I will figure it out in time I know.
