struggling with a decision-going back to work

Hi, I had an ulcer that ate through my stomach wall in December.  Had emergency surgery Dec. 26th.  Spent 6 weeks in hospital, 1 in ICU.  My dr just cleared me to go back to work on saturday, after being out for 13 weeks.  I saw my boss today and she was saying that I should stay out, the job is too strenuous, I work at a deli and you are on your feet and it is laborous work.  I am tired, but feeling so much better than I was, and now I have doubts, can I do it?  I am eligable for long term disability at this point, havent been paid since december.  I thought I should go back, now I am doubting myself.  My boss also said if I push myself and relapse, that I have to wait another 90 days before LTD kicks in. ???

Could you go back on a part-time basis until you build up stamina and get used to the routine? Good luck, Maria.

Ok. Did what you said. But I'm still getting a notice on my message board page in red letters telling me that signatures can only be "such and such" tall.  I'm gonna post this and see what happens.  I have even tried to disable my signature.

Guess I'll just keep my signature disabled....

Hey Maria -
I am not really versed on LTD.  My first thought is that you must carefully listen to your body.  I assume that you have been driving around town, doing errands, etc. at this point. With even minor exerstion are you completely winded?  If that is the case, then it may be too early to return.

Also what is the deal with LTD?  I know you stated that you have NOT received any pay since December.  IF you decide to not return to work at this point, what is the negative of going out on LTD.  For example, I assume you would not get as much $$$ on LTD as if you would working???  Is that why you are hesitating?

Also, if you go out on LTD and then decide to go back to work 30 days or 60 days from now when you had additional time to heal, is that okay or you don't have that option?

Hi nancy, I am not sure what the dr thinks, his nurse had left it up to me, and I "think" I am ok.........I am not 100 %, but I am doing much better. I hesitate because I need to work. You know I am a single mother of 2 and get no child support, and I am down to my last few hundred dollars. I realy dont know what to do. I am waiting to talk with the nurse in the morning, hopefully she can enlighten me.

Do you know how much pay difference you would have between receiving  LTD vs actually returning to work?  At the end of the day, we all need to pay our bills, so even though returning to work may be a challenge, hopefully in a short time your energy level will return back to normal.

I could kick you @##@ husband in the butt right now, and I am not a violent person.  I know you had a rough few years and then on top if it had to contend with your recent health problems.  I really do hope that things get easier for you.  I know 2011 had a rough start for you, however, things are looking brighter now!
