Those of you with lower back pain

Hello,

I have been with a terrible lower back pain since after I tried Zumba last week.  I thought I overdid it with Zumba and hence the pain.  The pain got worse and went to the Dr. Dr gave me Oxycodone and something else for the pain and it didn't do anything to me.  Oxycodone didn't even knocked me out.

The next day I went to chiropractor, had xrays done, went back for results yesterday...well, I have spurs on my lower back, my spine is crooked and my neck too straight.  He suggested ergonomic pillow that I got there and also therapy 3x a week for like a month.  After 2 days I called my regular dr again to ask him if he could give me something else for the pain, he prescribed Prednisone and Ibuprofen 600mg 2x.

Now, I am aware that I can't take Ibuprofen... I stopped by his office (since it was across where I go for chiropractor) and he suggested I take 2 Advils 2x a day (1 hour after breakfast and 1 hour after lunch).  He is aware that I had the surgery....

I know i need to take something because this pain is driving me crazy....I have been 3 days out of work resting and for the meds to kick in so I don't have so much pain when I return to work Monday (which for me is a 10 hour sitting down day)... Sitting down is agony..

Chiropractor also gave me a letter to give to HR for an ergonomic chair...I do feel better when I have heating pad on... so I am taking it to work Monday......

Those of you with lower back pain what do you take???

Thanks.. have a nice day

I also have struggled with neck and back issues. At it's worse when the muscles seem to be in spasm the only thing that helped was a muscle relaxer. I had wiplash so bad it hurt to swallow. And the muscle relaxer helped alot.

Hope you feel better real soon

Hi Audra,

Thank you for your post.  I know what you mean about whiplash.. the Dr said this is clearly a result from accidents... I got rear ended 3x while I was completely at a stop for a whie, road was wet and the person behind me stopped with me.  On the second one, when I went to the Dr caused 2 herneated disks on my lumbar part.

What muscle relaxer worked for you?

Thank you

You could try sitting on a physio ball instead of a chair.  Many people with lower back pain did this at my place of work.

I have severe lumbar strain and 2 herniations in my low back.  Since surgery, I have been on Tylenol #3 with Codeine for the pain and Flexeril-a muscle relaxant for the spasms.  I know someone who when she had the flu took Advil and developed a GI bleed and she is 5+ years out from RNY.  There is a medication that is used as a topical application, by prescription only and quite expensive.  It's been OK'd by the FDA for oseoarthritis in the knees.  She uses it on her knees (needs knee replacement eventually) and on her back.  It's called Pennsaid.  Check with your doctor about the availability of it in your area.  Good luck...

Pennsaid is an NSAID, and the fact that it's a topical cream does NOT matter---it will still have the same effect on the stomach lining.

Oxycodone when it's that bad. Otherwise I use a topical essential oil pain reliever called Panaway, from Young Living. I don't know of that blend in any other brand.
