The DS is an excellent choice.  On the DS board there are quite a few people who have revised to the DS after a failed band.  Don't go beating yourself up about failing with the band.  Statistics are not on you side.  Most people fail with the band.  Its proven.  Some don't, they are the lucky ones.

I think you will get better answers if you post this on the DS forum.

From what I read on here, it is certainly possible to revise from the band to any other surgery.

I'm sorry your band has stopped giving you the help you needed. Just one thing - do you have restriction? Is it worth getting another fill or have you already tried that? I only ask because I would not want to live on just 3 X 8oz meals a day if I still felt hungry. For me, my 3 meals and my 3 snacks do keep hunger away for me.

The band is a great tool - but there is no doubt that for some people it is just not the right surgery - either it does not offer them enough support for their needs or they have complications. Have you thought of VSG? I'm no expert but it looks like a surgery which works for many people.

From what I understand, going from the band to a VSG does not always produce good results.  This is because it is hard to get the sleeve small enough due to scar tissue that the band leaves behand.

The VSG is also a restrictive only proceedure.  If you didn't do well with a restrictive only proceedure(ie the lap-band) the first time, you really should be looking at something else.

Hi,

Sounds like you really need to study all your options.....

I would guess first starting with getting your LapBand to work for you again.....I don't know much about the fine tuning of them.

Study the other surgeries as they are pretty different. Matching your issues with the proper surgery is pretty important. Finding a surgeon that does revisions and has experience and statistics to properly advise you on your options.

All the procedures have success and failure. The DS is a very powerful procedure and has a very high success rate..... from what I understand there is a lot of supplement maintenance you need to do to keep your levels correct and a monthly expense for the supplements.

The RNY has probably the most studies done on it since it's about the oldest modern day WLS.

I chose the VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) The only thing I'm going to say is that it has worked wonders for me. See my sig for the numbers. There are many, many Lapband to VSG revisions on the VSG board as it is probably the most popular revision from the Lapband.

I'm not saying Rah Rah VSG......I'm saying look and study all your options. Just cause the VSG was right for me dosn't mean it's right for you.

Hope this helps.
