I would suggest making sure that you get at least 64 oz. of fluids a day.......It is VERY important.
You should be able to eat string cheese, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, nuts, and beans to mention a few things with high protein.
Best of luck on the journey. Fluids and protein will get you to goal.

Best I can remember at 7 weeks I was eating meats with sauces, and cooked vegetables- and a ton load of beans.  I probably ate beans every single day!    My doc has a 2/3 protein to 1/3 vegetable suggestion.  I don't think I had tried any raw vegetables or fruits by the time.  I don't think I was doing well on baked meats or grilled meats at that time.

At this stage I struggled with the protein - couldn't find a protein shake I liked - ended up trying the protein bars which helped a lot.  Still it wasn't enough and a short time later I had a lot of hair loss --  I'm not sure if it was low protein or just a result of the surgery (some say anesthesia) - I really don't know for sure.

Personally- during the early months - I grieved what I thought was giving up food - so I kept pushing and pushing to try to eat foods.  I wish now I would have relaxed about it and just relied on  the protein shakes.  I got discouraged after spending lots of money on shakes.  If I could do over, I would have bought more sample sizes and less dumpload truck sizes and tried more brands.  I think I have up too early on protein shakes.  (now - I finally found one that I actually like - not just tolerate).*stawberry flavored*

Hi,  I was reading your post and would like to know what protein shake you are using.  I havent had the surgery, but am planning on it.  I'm trying to change my eating habits, (not doing so well, I love to eat and to eat all the wrong things).  But I have to start making some changes.  Thank you in advance for yoru help.

The one I like is from a store called Vitamin Shop - I think it's a chain store because I've found in in several parts of the country.  It's their brand of protein powder.  It doesn't get all thick and foamy like the others.  I mix it with milk and it tastes like strawberry milk.

Be careful about making your selections pre-surgery because your taste might change.  I made that mistake too!  I used to love the Carnation instant breakfast chocolate sugar free and bought 6 or 8 boxes.  Big mistake.  The taste now makes me gag and the protein count is low for the volume.

Try some fat free refried beans...You can buy them in a can at Walmart...I like to put mild salsa and low fat sour cream on top of mine...so yummy!!!  You can use fat free sour cream , but I can't stand the taste of it...Some people like it, but I think its nasty...

Sounds like you are doing all the right stuff...Hang in there!!!

Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only TRUE FRIENDS will leave footprints in your heart...And may that friendship have such a ONENESS that when one weeps the other will taste salt...Friends are like balloons ; once you let them go you can't get them back....So I'm going to tie you to my heart so I never lose you.

I still do my shakes just to make sure I get in my protein. I eat cheese out the wazoo and I get different kinds of beans. I do make some pinto beans at home and mix in things to make them taste different. I'm almost 8 months out and meats still give me trouble. The doc doesn't know why. Anyhow, if you have a Whole Foods or something like close by, go out there and try their cheese selection. Usually in the premade area and cheese section, they have a basket of "under $2" cheeses. It's a good way to try new things. I like the irish, seaside cheddar and they also have pizza flavored and some cranberry pecan cheese. These are things that are good for you because they're organic and they taste pretty darn good. I know when my daughter gets a pizza craving, she'll go for the cheese instead so she gets the protein instead of the fat. I love the greek yogurt. I get plain and do what tons of people here suggest and that is add in a tsp or so of sugar free pudding. Good luck, hun. I know it is hard right now for you.
