Help...colonoscopy prep
Hello all!
I've been starving myself all day in preparation for a colonoscopy tomorrow. Now I've just started drinking Miralax mixed with G2 (the lower sugar gatorade). I'm kinda freaking out because i have to drink 64 ounces of it. Now I'm afraid they forgot I had a gastric bypass and maybe I shouldn't be drinking as much as someone with a "normal" stomach.
Anyone have any experience with this?
Thank you!!!

Sorry I have only had it done pre-surgery. Didn't they give you a solution to drink? I am surprised that you are mixing Miralax with G2. I always had to drink some hideous (sal****er tasting substance) and then got plenty of magazines and the toilet was my best friend for several hours. The weight loss must be great after that! :)
How long can you space the 64 ounces over? I have no problem downing 20 ounces of coffee in the AM over a 30-45 minute span. If you have 4+ hours to do it, I would think it might not be a problem. Plus if I read correctly, you had your surgery back in '01 so I assume? your restriction is not very restricted at this point.

I have had a Colonoscopy and waas given a type of drink that made you go to the bathroom quite bit. I would aabsolutely call the office or even the ER to ask them about the fluids. Thats a high volume for someone to drink thats had Gastric Bypass. By calling the ER they can refer you to an oncall Dr. you can either call your Dr. or tell you whether or not to stop. OR call your Doctors office and usually they have a pager number for emergencies. Since your procedure is tomorrow, Id defientely say its an emergency. You defientely dont want to rupture or stretch something!
Best of luck!

Your pouch is like a funnel. It has a hole in the bottom and you cannot stretch it by drinking water. You need to continue with the fluids until your bowels are passing nothing but clear liquid. The older solution was a gallon of fluid flavored with really awful tasting stuff. Last time I did it I used Mirolax and Crystal Light and it was not bad at all.
Thanks everyone! Yes, I'm ten years post-op and can tolerate anything but overcooked chicken breast! I stay away from sugar for the most part but am able to eat a little without dumping.
Well, I've made it almost halfway through the Miralax ****tail and feel fine. Thanks for the support! I think I need support for my "quick to freak out" response. Is there a forum on here for that??? LOL!

I;ve been scheduled for a colonoscopy this summer and I asked my bariatric surgeon just last Friday about the prep I'll have to take for it, Pico Salax, or something like that, and he said it's fine as long as I avoid vomitting I'm ok. I remember that I had to drink alot of it but it was kind of spaced out between doses. I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck with the test!
