Ok, I know I'm less than a week out but my family was talking about Easter Dinner gathering.  I would assume by then I would be on pureed foods.  They were asking as to what spec ial foods I needs to eat.  If there is cheesy potatoes could I not mash them to pureed starte and eat them?  What about the ham...if it was cut into smal pieces and I chewed chewed, chewed would that be acceptable of do I need to provide my own?

I wouldn't try ham yet, it seems kind of fibrous.  If I were you I would bring something, maybe tuna or canned chicken breast.  I can't really think of any other kinds of "Easter" foods that would do.  Potatoes were not good for me because high carb foods made me ill.  Some kind of soup might work.  Tuna or chicken salad with no veggies would be your best bet.

Thanksgiving was a five weeks after my RNY surgery.  I ate one square inch of turkey, one tablespoon of mashed potatoes and six kernels of corn.  There should be something on the table you can eat without you or anyone else having to prepare something special for you.  You should be fine with the ham and cheesy potatoes.  Mash to a puree and chew, chew, chew is exactly what I would do.

Sweet potato or yams are better than white potatoes, made with a sweetner substitute if they are preferred candied. You could eat the vegetables mashed like green beans, squash and peas and carrots. Offer to bring a lentil or squash soup? Sugarless jello you can do to! You may think you will want to eat  and feel like your missing out on eating but by the time you eat your 1/4-12 cup all the worry will be for nothing. Plus all the fixins are the best part. Just choose wisely because it hurts to go down if your not ready for semi-solids.

I am only 3 weeks post op and my plan calls for pureed and I can have anything as long as it is moist and put through the blender. I tried tuna but couldn't do it. It was too dry. I can't do eggs either unless they are really moist. I add milk when I scramble them to help with that. Good luck...I am sure you will figure out something you can eat. I just gotta tell you that all things do not taste good as baby food..lol

Bit of mashed taters--probably fine. Ham? TERRIBLE idea. Well, maybe VERY pureed with some gravy. MAYBE.

You're going to have about two tablespoons of food. Tell them not to sweat the idea of making something special. You need your fluids a lot more than you need any food anyway.

You can puree anything, so have fun with it!

I had my RNY on Nov. 15 and survived Thanksgiving with mashed potatoes and a little bit of gravy....wasn't ready for anything any more solid.  By that time....I really only wanted oatmeal.  :)
