Please I need some insight! I know I am only 4 months out. However, here is my issue. I don't find food enjoyable 9 times out of ten, NOW. Here is why: I often get the hiccups, I hear this annoying sound when I take bites and swallow. The sound is really undescribable. It's not painful, but to hear it; you would think it would be! I can feel the food hitting my stomach depending what it is; is not a good feeling. Is this **** normal??????? Will it get easier? Will the sounds go away or quiet down? The hiccups? Like I said I don't find eating enjoyable! I don' t know what to do, Sigh!!!

Hi There,
I am almost 5 years post-op DS and I still get the HICCUPS that are often times a signal that I have had enough to eat OR have continued eating and have OVEREATEN. The funny thing is, I only have "4" hiccups ! Early on (post-op) I also use to get a runny nose whenever I ate, but no longer.

As far as the->
I hear this annoying sound when I take bites and swallow. The sound is really undescribable. It's not painful, but to hear it; you would think it would be! I can feel the food hitting my stomach depending what it is; is not a good feeling. <-I can feel my food moving around but never hitting my stomach...that is...unless I have eaten pasta, pizza, or rice...then, WOAH BABY!) It has never been painful! To me, it is hilarious when these things happen. OMgosh, in the evenings, (only when I have eaten way too many carbs from pasta, pizza or rice, especially), the SOUNDS are really loud and funny! My grandsons look at me and ask if I am hungry; just like other things, I just BLAME IT ON THE DOG! Even 5 years later, since my DS, I still am in awe of WHAT GOES ON with my body and more often than not, I guess one could say that I JUST PLAIN ENJOY everything about my surgery!

You are still so new post-op; The saying, "ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT", is very true in most cases. Hopefully, as time progresses, you will begin to enjoy eating and especially the results of your own surgery. Good luck.

Wow, like you, come to think about it, it is when I eat bread, I really feel it in my stomach. I have been trying to eat tortillas or lettuce wraps. I guess I have eaten enough bread in my lifetime, anyway.Your right about that saying. thanks so much!

Hiccups are often normal...I have them. For me, they are the absolute sign that I'm full. I know when I am full and usually don't have to get full to be done eating, as I know this far post-op (13 yrs) what to eat and not, but when I am out eating with friends I tend to 'pick' at things over an hour or two and find that hiccups are my gift of stopping.
The strange gurglings and sounds are absolutely normal, too. Just comes with WLS...didn't they mention those things pre-op? Do you have a WLS 'team' at your surgeon's office or a support group? You should. It will help you as you lose and way after.
I don't know about your loss of desire for eating...maybe a "gift" in the long run. Surely nothing bad.
Best of luck to you!

Now that you've said that, I do notice with the hiccups I am full or just about. Never equated the two. I do have a support group with my surgeon, and I must say they didn't, haven't warned me about it. Thanks so much!

I too get those noises- I think they are related to air as they seem to move up and if I open my mouth- they get louder- a bit embarassing- when the sound goes away it just starts back up and moves up again every 10 seconds or so-mine are slightly uncomfortable- kind of like a burp that wants to happen but never does.  I also use this as a sign to quit eating- some have told me it will quit in a year but- if this is some of what I have to live with to lose weight...I embrace it- remember this is a MAJOR lifestyle change and it does take ALOT of getting used to but ..oh the rewards....... Best of luck to You!!!!

Just briefly~hiccups happen in relation to the diaphragm...whether full food related or other.

I had a lot of work on my diaphram when I had surgery. I get hiccups about 10 minutes after I stop eating if I eat too fast. They are very loud and will sneak up on me so they come out of my mouth in the middle of sentence. Talk about embarressingI drive my husband crazy. LOL
