I commend you for the hard work and sacrifice. I am not saying that some people do not work hard. Just that the weight comes off whether they work hard at it or not.
The hard work pays off after the second year when the RNY surgery alone is no longer enough to keep weight under control.

I don't have a copy of it to show you, but there's a study floating around that states that for anyone with more than 25 pounds to lose, there is only a 5% success rate of keeping the weight off long term through diet and exercise alone.
If oncologists kept recommending a treatment with a 95% failure rate, they'd be sued for malpractice.
Yet, time and again "diet and exercise" is shoved down patients' throats as the best cure for obesity.
I bet you could get all that weight off without surgery. But, keep it off? I doubt it.
Give it a shot if you're that unsure and I'll try not to say,"I told you so."

In doing my research on wls as an option for me i came to realise that in 18 years I have not weighed less that 180 pounds. I did every weight loss diet I could afford and some I couldnt, exercized until i thought my bones would break and i literally couldn't get out of bed or turn my head. I have given up things on my own like soda and junk food and rarely eat them now.I've been on pills that make my heart race and gave me nightmares and those were the gentle ones. I have done everything I can think of to ge the weight off and I am betting you have as well or you wouldn't be even considering this idea. So many people have said that they didn't realise how little they would eat after surgery. They just didn't want it. So just keep that in mind and dont let those little cups scare you now. Remember that when you are home from your surgery that those little cups will seem huge when its time to eat and you will be thinking instead "I simply can't eat all that"
And definitely keep posting here for encouragement. I havent been here long but everyone seems really terrific about helping a newbie out :)

You have a BMI of 52.2. You have a less than 5% chance of losing and KEEPING OFF your excess weight with diet and exercise.
I was scared when I was contemplating how I would eat after an RNY, too. Thankfully, I was able to have a DS instead, and I eat very well. (*grin*)
I KNEW that I could NOT maintain any significant weight loss without WLS---I had 40 years of dieting to prove it. Seven years after my DS, I'm as happy as a hog in slop.

This site is seriously a god send
i feel like every single one of you came and sat on my couch and talked me through this
. I totally get it now i know it wont be easy but it wouldn't be easy to live life obese and possibly getting more and more obese and taking years off my life
. I want babies
and i dont want anything to stop me not to mention my health is getting worse and worse. so i am still going to go through with it as of now i have really thought about. I just let ppls negative reactions to me wanting surgery get to me ... but i realize now that i am the one going through this not them... they don't understand... and i have to do this for me and my health!!! so thank you guys sooooo much!!!

My opinion is that the only reason insurance requires a pre-op weight loss program is because they are hoping you will get excited by your weight loss and decide not to have surgery and save them some money.
