I had this prior to my surgery but since my surgery its gotten worse. much more pronounced. anybody else have a problem with this and how do I go about getting it fixed? I have lost 160 lbs but cant wear skirts or shorts because its at my calf and looks awful.

I some of my varicose veins  can be a little lumby. And, like you, I've lost over 160 lbs.  The way I look at it,  the veins are my badge of honor for everything I've been through and accomplished.  I don't wear shorts because it always cuts my off in the wrong area.  But I will put on a skirt that falls to the top of my knee.   If nobody likes my veins,  I'm sorry,  but that's their problem not mine.

I suggest seeing a doc. I just went and found out my vein is caused by a leaking valve. It causes the blood to flow in both directions. I had an ultrasound done and will have the vein ablated. Google VNUS. apparently that's the thing right now. They thread a thingy into the vein and then close it from within. I asked if varicose veines are a big deal or just a "look" thing. It is definitely a health issue and I would have it looked at ASAP. The doc told me that blood clods can form,,so it is a big deal..
Good Luck

Thanks for posting this information!  I do not have those little spder-veins, but rather lumpy, bumpy green/blue/purple ones on my right calf.  I HATE them and they do prevent me from wearing shorts/skirts without nylons.  However, lately, they have become a bit painful at times.  I think I will have them looked at ASAP.  I do not want any problems. Thanks again!

I had the procedure done last week. The green ropey vein is gone. Of course I am all bruised but even that is going away.  You really should get this taken care of.  My insurance paid for it  Good luck.

Constipation and the having to strain for a BM can be contributing factors to the formation of varicose veins. So avoinding constipation can be a good thing in the first place to decrease the chances of varicose veins forming. I know how how annoying varicosties are as I too have developed a few post RNY myself.
