Post surgery liquid diet... I'm having a hard time with it, did you?

My RNY surgery was 3/23/10 and i remember the torture of the post-op diet.  I was on clear liquids for 2 weeks.  I ended up having a huge temper-tantrum (like 4 year old) because my boyfriend and my mom were eating steak and i was sipping beef broth.  Then came 2 weeks of full liquids and then a month of soft then i was good to go....it was very hard and at times i didn't think i could do it.  Different doctors and different surgeons have different post-op diets.  It's important to stick with what your doctor wants you to do.  Good luck...you will make it!

Ohmigosh! A month of mushy?  I had to do 3 days clear, 10-14 days full liquid, 10-14 days mushy.  I am at the ende of mushy now, and am so sick of living on tuna salad and eggs I could scream! But, yes, all docs are different and we have to do what ours says to do.  Congrats to you for making that long without killing somebody! :)

I had clears for a week post op- I'm now onto two weeks full liquids.  I did and do still experience hunger- real and head hunger.  I also take a PPI, but it doesn't fix this.  On the upside, the hunger is much less than when I had liquids before surgery, and I find that a few sips of whatever I'm drinking takes away the hunger.  So, just keep your sleeve full of liquids- not hard when we're supposed to have so much!  Do as much variety as you can- broth, slushies made with SF drinks, popcicles, jello.  I treated myself to a fridge full of Vitamin Water and SoBe 0s.  They are really easy to take with me and throw in the purse without worry of leaking.  Full liquids is an improvement but still hard.  Guess we just have to tough it out.  My weightloss so far is motivating me to stick to my surgeon's plan.  That and the fact that they pointed out they've had a couple patients rupture their sleeves because they advanced teir diet too fast.

Good luck- you'll do great!

Thank you so much. Today was a little easier for me for some reason. I decided that I would not waste money by having my family eat out and not make them eat another what we call "leo-catch-a-mela day". It may means something else in another language, but in our house it means... catch what you can in the kitchen day.
Anyway, I cooked them their favorite meal and sat at the table with them as usual. Except for this time, I watch them enjoy while I had a sugar free popsicle. The Lord was truely my strength.
I am just trying to make sure that that I get enough water in!.... it's hard. I'm going to have this water thing mastered by the end of the week. This chic does not want to visit the hospital again!
