I am about to start my pre-op liquid diet and was wondering if I am allowed to have V8 or tomato juice? Also, what about diet soda? I know I can't have it post-op but wasn't sure about pre-op. Does anyone know? thanks!

On my liquid diet, flat diet caffeine free pop was on the okay list (this was post-op, too), but juices weren't okay because they were too high in sugar and carbs.

The whole idea behind a pre-op diet is to go low-carb, high-protein. Any sort of juice is high in sugar/carbs. Well, unless it's meat juice. (*grin*)

Didnt your surgeon give you a list of what you could have?

Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only TRUE FRIENDS will leave footprints in your heart...And may that friendship have such a ONENESS that when one weeps the other will taste salt...Friends are like balloons ; once you let them go you can't get them back....So I'm going to tie you to my heart so I never lose you.

Yes I have a list and neither diet soda or V8 was on the list but I have read some other posters on here say they have had those so I was a lil confused. Not sure if it is just "liquids" or clear liquids. I guess I will just call my surgeons office tomorrow.

All surgeons are different, and they each have their different ways and reasons for doing things as each patient is different...I would stick to the list...I would think that if he wanted you to have diet soda and V8 that it would be on the list....

Pre-op I did have tomato juice, but only 4 oz. at a time. Post-op I am not allowed until I am 2 months out! Diet soda, I stopped a month pre-op just to get use to not having it!! I know some people that did drink diet soda clear up till two days before surgery! Glad to see you have a date and I hope you have smooth sailing! I finally had my surgery 4/28 and I have had no complications at all! Just wish I would have done it sooner!!!! Good luck!!!
