OT does anyone have any tips to make moving easier?
Use bright colored markers to mark the boxes, especially word words like VERY FRAGILE.
Pack one room at a time...Don't run back and forth from room to room, takes up too much time and energy...
Have a box for things you don't want to keep and move with you...A box to where you can donate the items to Goodwill / salvation army...A box just for tra****ems that no one else would want.
Put all important papers/bills/and etc in a seperate box...
I used pillow slips, bathtowels to wrap delicate items in...
Have plenty of water/cans of pop on hand for anyone that might be helping you...Plus some luncheon meat, buns, chips available for their lunch...Its simple and easy to feed helpers instead of having to cook...Plus if they get hungry they will leave before you are done with them helping you...
Try to ask friends to come help you pack that doesn't have small children that they will have to bring alone...kids who will be running through your house, making noise, getting into things, looking through all your things, dragging things back out of boxes...
If you belong to a church, perhaps ask the ladies /men of the church to help you pack and move your things from one place to another.
Good luck !!!
Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only TRUE FRIENDS will leave footprints in your heart...And may that friendship have such a ONENESS that when one weeps the other will taste salt...Friends are like balloons ; once you let them go you can't get them back....So I'm going to tie you to my heart so I never lose you.
Yes, throw out or donate what you can. I helped a friend move and found myself carrying a box of old, bent wire hangers...
Mark your boxes at least with the room in the new house where they are going so the movers will know where to put them. Having the contents on there too is a bonus if you are looking for something specific before you are totally unpacked.
***Mark a box or two "Necessities" and it will be the last boxes you pack. Coffee maker, coffee,(or whatever your morning must-have is) bath soap, towels, nightwear, sheets and pillows for your bed.
When you get to your new house, the FIRST thing you do is make the bed after it arrives. Then, you can work as long as you can doing other things but when you're ready, you can just fall into bed without facing the job of making it when you're exhausted. If you're not too tired, you have shower/bath supplies in there too.
I have moved a lot and this has helped me a bunch.***
Also, save an empty box or two for a last walk-through before you go. I usually find several things that I am just so accustomed to seeing that I overlooked them in the packing. Don't forget outside--I have left at least 2 garden hoses and reels at houses and my favorite plant pot.
EXCELLENT advice! I learned this one the hard way. Several years ago, I bought a house and had to make the move while I was sick. (Not in-bed sic, just tired-and-cranky sick.) I did hire movers, but I'd packed a lot of stuff myself, and after the moved all my stuff, i still had to go back to the old house and move the dogs and cats.
Needless to say, by the time I got them to the new place, I was exhausted and we were ALL hungry. I'd stopped en route and bought supper for all of us---canned cat food, canned dog food, and canned something for me.
Could NOT find the can opener. Drove to the little convenience store about a mile away---the next-closest store was about ten miles farther. Guess what they did NOT have at the convenience store???
I'm sure I looked REALLY pitiful---they ended up selling me the can opener they used in their deli.
