My dad was able to stop transfusions by having monthly shots of b12. Maybe that is less expensive.
I think you should appeal the insurance not covering the costs.

I have had good luck with

Ferrex 150 Forte which is a prescription iron. I take two a day and my insurance pays for it.

Hope you find something that works. Stinks to be dragging !
