I had the same issue with Aetna. I has lost about 30 pounds during one of the required years and my bmi dipped below 35 to 33.5, however I quickly gained all of it back. Another unsuccessful WL attempt. They denied me stating that I didnt meet the criteria in their medical bulletin. I appealed and they came back and said I do meet medical criteria but I didn't meet psych clearance which was a lie. So now I sent them the pysch clearance AGAIN. I have to have a tele-conference on tuesay with Aetna to state my case. A bunch of bull if you ask me, but I need this suergery so I am going to fight for my life. Good luck to you.

Insurance companies have adopted the NIH rules...they have to draw a line SOMEWHERE.  (We have people on here looking for revisions because they "ONLY" got to a BMI of 20 and wanted 18,  Not everyone should have wls or revisions.)

But there have been recent publications arguing for revisiting those criteia.
