Fight for what you feel is best for your body!  You are the one that will have to live with your surgery choice.  There are several people on these boards that will help you fight and/or fought their insurance to make their WLS choice come true.  It can be done!
Winning isn't everything, but wanting to win is.

I  would not recommend wl  surgery, the after work is still so much work ..And I mean SERIOUS work! I am having a hard time remembering to take my vitamins. If you are still in doubt, wait it out, you can reapply. god bless whatever you do.. Peace Wendy

Keep fighting your insurance and work with your surgeon to get the surgery you want. A lot of people here have successfully petitioned their insurance to cover VSG for them.

Do NOT do ANYTHING to your body until you are absolutely certain you want to take the surgical route.

This is LIFE-ALTERING surgery (regardless of your chosen procedure) and there will be days when you have to struggle post-op for a variety of reasons. On those days, the only thing that keeps you going is that you really, really wanted the procedure and you KNOW that you have done what's best for you and your body.

If you are seriously up in the air about this I hope you take a few months to make a decision. Try the diet/exercise thing one more time if you want to and see if you can keep it off (although it's a small percentage, some folks actually can!)

Don't do something that you are not 100% sure you want to do. WLS is a FOREVER decision in most cases - and should definately be thought of that way. Yes, some folks have the option of revisions/reversals but you should never assume that you would be eligible for any changes. They are expensive and are much more dangerous than "virgin" surgeries. So you should make sure you understand this is most likely a PERMANENT change.

And for God's sake, if you do decide to do this, FIND a way to get the surgery you want - don't settle for another just because it's "covered".

Best of luck to you in your decision and as you gather wisdom for your journey.=)

surgery is a last option. emphasize LAST.
If you aren't ready, give it one more shot without surgery.

And yeah, if you want VSG, try to find a way. Google reactive hypoglycemia. I've been lucky but it is becoming more and more of an issue for RNYers. good luck whatever you do! (or don't do)

My insurance is BCBS of Alabama and when I started this whole thing back in April they didn't cover VSG, which was the surgery I wanted.  I decided to check to see if anything changed and in fact it did.  They redid the policy in July 2011 and now VSG is not investigational anymore and it is one of the surgeries they cover in addition to RNY and Lapband.  So now, since I had made up my mind to go RNY and now the VSG is covered, I'm having to decide all over again.....Check your insurance policy to see if maybe they rewrote their policies mid-year.  Good luck.

You couldn't pay me enough to have RNY. The ONLY procedures I'd consider are VSG and DS. Fight for it, and take more time to get it if necessary. Don't get in a hurry to get something you aren't sure you can live with.
