What is food? Why does it have so much control over us?

What is food…. Food is what we need to exist… Food is the fuel for our body…
Think of your body…as if it were a car… Your car only holds so much fuel before it starts to over flow… Your body is the same way…if we over fill it…we have excess fat…
Why do we give “Food" so much control over us…. Why do we “Love" food so much… Can food love us back? Why do we “Crave" certain foods? Why do certain foods make us feel comforted? Only to make us feel miserable later….
Why are we so obsessed with food? The things we could accomplish if we didn’t spend so much time obsessing about food..
Perhaps we need to start thinking of it for what it is… Fuel to run our body… The better quality of fuel you put in…. The better your body will run..
  Hhhhmmmmm Makes sense doesn’t it…

It does make a lot of sense. But what makes sense often has little to do with actual human behavior. The longer I live, the less I understand the disconnect. I wish things were as easy as simply understanding them!

You are so right....I have learned we can re-train ourselves.  I was soooo incredible addicted to carbs and sugar before I had wls and now I don't even think about them.

The trick for me was to get off them...doesn't work for everyone...but I don't have the cravings or even think about it.

Before WLS I would sneak around and eat, pies, cookies, ice cream (1/2 gallon at a time) I couldn't get enough of it.  I have said this before....but I truly feel  it is true....I am like an alcoholic...if they take a drink they can't stop...I fear I would be the same...so I don't go there and I don't even miss it.

I'm the same way- I am a carb addict, and treat it that way.

Good work for both of us!

Good post.

It does help that it tastes good though. In March when I had my gallbladder attack I was on liquids for over a week. Boy, did that get old FAST! K

Yes, I agree it does taste good...however I have learned there are healthy foods that taste good too!  And it is also better for my body....my body is old...I am 50....and the healthier foods make me feel awesome! sometimes I forget I am 50...LOL

For me, food is totally linked to pleasure.  I've got issues...

I think most of us have issues over food!

But we can learn to deal with them....Sometimes we have to get counseling (I did about 6 years ago, best $$ I have ever spent)...not only with food issues but....learning how to live in this body, after being over weight my whole life...I didn't know how to live in a normal size body....may sound weird but it is true!

We have to figure out what works for us....and then do it...and keep doing it for a lifetime....

I think that I'm like a lot of people in that  I have to become "uncomfortable" before I'm motivated to make a change.  Right now I'm uncomfortable because my clothes are too tight.  I've refocused my efforts and am being brutally honest with myself about what I've been putting into my mouth.
