I was supposed to take a script this am before eating and I forgot.  How many hours roughly should I go to allow my stomach to empty so I can take the pill.  Ate early, 8am.  So I am thinking around 2pmish?

Sorry, no answer for you here, just wanted to say Dr Moazzez did my surgery too. You are in great hands. Do you go the support group meeting? I haven't been in so long and finally just went to the last one they had.

 Best wishes on your surgery.

That is good to hear.  I get a good feeling about him and his staff.  I feel they have given out some very good information and guidlines to follow.

I wanted to go to the last meeting, but I had a tremendous double ear infection.  I hope I make the next one, although it's only 5 days post op.  As long as I feel up to it, I will have hubby drive me.

It depends on what you ate. Startchy foods take around 2 hours and proteins (meats) 4 hours.

That would make sense.  It was protein because I'm trying to get ready for post op.  I'll give it a couple of hours and take it then.

  Call your pharmacist.

It might be more important to take it on time versus taking it on an empty stomach.

Food in the stomach tends to sit there for 20-30 minutes. Then rapid emptying begins. The half life is 90 minutes. (In 90 minutes, half the food is gone). While the density of the food will slow stomach emptying a bit, for the most part most food, if chewed well, will follow this path. The mushier the food is, the faster it gets emptied. You can also flu**** out with water most of the time.

What really varies is how much time the food takes to flow through the intestines and be completely absorbed by our digestive system. Foods can take between 8 and 72 hours to be digested which is a wide range. But that's not relevant to your question.

No, but it's interesting.  I'm to start a 48 hour liquid fast, and I'm wondering if they give you something to clear you out before surgery in case there is something not quite gone.  They went over a lot of things but haven't mentioned that.

Every program will have you do NPO (nothing by mouth) from midnight (or earlier) on and most have you do a clear liquid diet the day before. Most have you take something like Milk of Magnesia the day before too.

But everything else varies...
