I have only had issues with my blood sugar while pregnant. but now my NUT wants me to start monitoring my sugar and keeping a very strict diary b/c sometimes after I eat I get very sleepy and kinda shaky.

Anyone else start to have issues after surgery and weight loss? Did it resolve itself or did you end up on meds?

Heya!

I haven't had issues yet, but I wanted to mention that what you describe might be hypoglycemia. So it's good to keep an eye on that, I've heard of some getting hypoglycemia and for some it can be pretty rough. I'm sure others will chime in about it.

It's fairly common in RNY's.  I've never heard of this with sleeved patients.

I had gestational diabetes in 2003 and am now on Metformin.   My BMI is just in the overweight range and I follow a protein first, complex carb diet - it has made no difference to my HbA1c which has risen steadily over the past 3 or 4 years

I've had only a few episodes of sugar drops since surgery and my A1C is still good.  I do watch though and know when my sugar is dropping.  I, like Kim, had gestational diabetes with my pregnancies (both) and diabetes runs on my both sides of may family so I still need to be aware of long-term sugar issues.

I have issues. Usually hits me in the evening maybe a few times a month. I get to feeling shaky and just yucky. Usually I eat a little something (crackers or candy) and feel better pretty soon. I've never talked to a doctor about it though.
I had no issues like that before surgery/weight loss.

Yep, it's one of the reasons I revised. The RNY contributes to reactive hypoglycemia.

Prior to surgery, I found that sometimes I felt hypoglycemic, but in fact my blood sugar was fine. The doctor explained that your blood sugar doesn't have to actually be low --it just has to drop a certain amount suddenly for you to feel like it is low.
Did they give you a blood glucose meter? You should be able to monitor for a few days and see if she is right.

I am four years out from surgery and have severe reactive hypoglycemia and dumping syndrome.  I have to take precose (acarbose) with each meal and I am now on phentermine to boost my metabolism (which seems to be naturally non-existent).  They think I may have nesidioblastosis.  I take my blood sugar five times a day.  I generally get a big drop an hour to an hour and a half after eating.  Biggest scare was blood sugar of 23.  I'm lucky that I have no yet lost consciousness or had any seizures.
