Now it's October something...

So I've been waiting for my surgeon's office to hear from my HMO provider that I have coverage again. I thought I would be hearing from them yesterday or today to give me a new surgery date. I was wrong.

In fact, I found out on my own today that my surgeon's office wouldn't be getting verification of coverage from my HMO until 10/1 because that's when my Medicaid plan rolls over to them from state medicaid.

So I called my surgeon's office and got the answer I was expecting. They still can't give me a new date until they have the verification from the HMO since they are who I have the pre-authorization from.

So I won't know a surgery date til 10/3 at the earliest... which means my surgery will probably now be October something, NOT 9/27.

If this crap keeps up I'll never have my surgery. Trying to keep my head up, guys, but I'm having a hard time. I hate having everything up in the air and not knowing if/when I'll have my surgery. Starting to feel like I'm doomed to live in this obese body for the rest of my life.

Celia..I know that you spoke to a supervisor there, but have you also spoken with an ombudsman at DHS?
Since this whole screw up was the result of mismanaged paperwork, maybe the ombudsman there could get things expedited for you.

I know its frustrating but sometimes you have to get through the hoops. It took me 3 years of disappointments of figuring out how to get surgery before it finally happened for me. Good luck.

Thanks for the support.

It's especially frustrating when you've done everything asked of you in a very timely manner and get within one day of your surgery date to find out that someone else's screw up screwed you out of having surgery.

Gina - I don't even think our Department of Human Services has an ombudsman. I'll just wait, I guess.

At this point, I'm just wondering what else is going to come up to keep me from having surgery.

By law they must have an ombudsman and must provide you with the contact information for that person when requested. Although I believe they would be called the "state ombudsman" rather than DSHS specific. If you are willing to become your own best advocate I could find that information for you, you just have to be willing to do the talking and the work...? I would only need to know your state and county...
