3 year labs.. Problems, questions..

My lab work for my three year check up came back today. I had been supplementing with tender iron for two years now.. Ferritin had been low two years ago, got it to an all time high of 15 last year, and now back down to 6... Numbers are as such:

WBC: 3.7
RBC: 3.44
HGB: 28
MCH: 26
MCHC: 32
Ferritin: 6

My b-12 is 1078 down from 3100 (I had been over supplementing). My other numbers are normal and steady from last year..

Not sure what other supplementation I should be doing..

Feel like I have been hit by a truck lately, and my insurance (tricare prime at an mtf) apparently won't cover infusions- at least my PCP won't refer me.. He thinks it's low, but not soo bad.

Advice? Please..

blarg, I haven't had my 3 year labs done yet and I need to.

did you cross post this somewhere Major Mom would see it, like Light weights?  I know you'll get good imput here, too.

I put it here and on the main VSG forum... I am frustrated as all get right now. I have been slightly low on my levels since I hit puberty, so this isn't completely new to me, but the trend is discouraging..

Go get ur labs done lady!

I am waiting because it looks like I may have health insurance in a month or two (that'll be odd) and then I assume it'll be cheaper. a LOT cheaper.

Go get your labs done before you shrivel up and die of some horrid deficiency.  We need funny pictures and your wit.

 thank you, so sweet

nice post, good use of colors in your font and graphics, plus it's a wee bit snarky.

It is far past time for infusions. Fight the system. Find the MTF patient advocate and learn where to go to get over PCP's head. A Tricare patient advocate MIGHT be helpful, too--though remember they are there to keep from spending money :-).

Back in my day, this would have involved just walking into the patient advocate's office and saying HELP. I don't know how things work now.

I got two infusions this summer with all my markers still in the low-normal range but showing a consistent downward trend over a year or so. I was fatigued and always bruised. I KNEW I was getting into trouble even though the lab results were clinically in range. I found a doc that agreed it was an intelligent thing to do. Voila! Two weeks after the second infusion I felt SO much better.

It's time for labs again, so I'll see how much things picked up with that intervention.

Thanks Elizabeth. We used the mtf patient advocate with success in regards to a surgery my husband recently had, so maybe that is what I need to do. I think my PCP is just clueless- I have an appointment for Oct 6th and I am going to just come out and demand the referral to a hematologist. I am just tired of being run down all the time. At this point I can't tell where my anemia ends and ADHD begins anymore! I was chalking it up to recovery from my TT for a bit, but over two months out from that now and I am not getting better. Sometimes I feel like I yawn all day, just to get enough air, and my fingers are always freezing lately.. All not great indicators..

Fawn can you ask for a referral for a hematologist? That would help to keep things straight in the anemia dept.

Fawn, wondering why you suffer from a lack of vits and nutrients when you had the VSG, I thought it was not a malabsorptive surgery....  Are you just not able to eat enough to get what you need?
