It's sad stories like yours that make me wonder where people's hearts are.

(((Hugs)))

I'm so glad you finally stood up for yourself and told her how mean she was.

Thanks for caring, and for the hugs...

Hugs back atcha

Wish I knew why people act like that...Like I said to another woman, Ive always wondered why my Mom never stood up to her when I was young...Her mother was a real *****y woman, and I think that my Mom was actually afraid to stand up to her.

Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only TRUE FRIENDS will leave footprints in your heart...And may that friendship have such a ONENESS that when one weeps the other will taste salt...Friends are like balloons ; once you let them go you can't get them back....So I'm going to tie you to my heart so I never lose you.

No, she does not deserve for you to call her grandmother. How aweful for her to of treated you like that, but I am so glad that you finally stood up to her. Good for you!!!!!

I am over weight and so is my first child. I have tolerated alot from people who have made comments about her. Doctors, and even my old boss. Yep, lost mt job over that one.

I just wish that people could understand that the problem of being overweight goes so much deeper than simply oovereating!!!!

I can feel the pain that you are facing with yourself and your daughter...Why do people have to be so cruel and mean?  Whats wrong with being compassionate, understanding and caring?

Never and I mean never should anyone ever make mean comments about a child...So I take it that you quit the job and told him to shove it?

You sound like a very thoughtful and loving mother...I applaud you for standing up for your child...For years Ive wondered why my Mother never stood up for me...That I will never know because she's passed away.

Thanks for messaging me back and caring...I hope all goes well for you and your daughter...I do care!!! Tammy

I'm sure there's a LOT more to this story than is in this brief article. I was really struck by the sheer ignorance displayed in the comments---and I don't just mean the lack of empathy for the obese. Am I the only one amazed at the bad grammar, hideous spelling, and inappropriate use of words the various posters obviously didn't know the meaning of?

Okay, I'll admit it---I AM PREJUDICED against the uneducated. I see so much willful ignorance in this country. Children are provided a free education in this country, in fact are required by law to attend school until a certain age---but it seems so many of them simply choose to not learn.

I disagree that the children simply choose not to learn.  Perhaps their parents do not value an education and pass that belief onto them.  Or even sadder is that the parents are so self absorbed in their own problems that they don't even value the children.
I've seen this around here...  the next score of drugs means more than caring for the children.  The irony is that when the state takes the kids, that income drops.  Yes, we have children supporting the parents.

Yes, you're right about it mostly being the parents' fault for not valuing education---but some kids still learn in spite of this. (A dear friend of mine worked two jobs IN HIGH SCHOOL and put himself through college, all while his parents were asking him why he didn't just drop out and get a 'good job' at the garment factory where THEY worked.)

What I was really thinking of wasn't little kids, but older teens and even adults who don't CARE if they can spell or write a complete sentence---a problem many of the commenters had. Education shouldn't stop when one leaves school.

At least his parent have jobs!  I think we're basically in agreement and just coming at it from different angles.  I say get them excited when they are young and keep them excited.  My own father thought girsl should not go to college since they just get married and have babies.  However, he did want us to marry well.  i.e. doctors, lawyers, etc.  My older sister convinced him that college might be a good place to meet pre-med and pre-law students so he reluctantly gave in.  Sis and I worked our butts off and got degrees.  Brothers who would have had it handed to them on  a silver platter didn't finish or never went.

I'm just on a rant today against stupidity.  Such as schools that no longer teach cursive because it's essentialy worthless.  Then why have studies shown that cursive writing fosters creativity?  Oh and another thing, what's up with some women saying they're going to keep having babies until they're allowed to keep one?

Am I incoherent and rambling? More than likely.  I blame you for setting me off on one of my favorite ranting subjects:  stupidity in all its various and sundry forms.  Plus it's Friday and I'm beat to the bone.  And I got a spam message that said my bank refused to accept my direct deposit paycheck yet I was smart enough not to open the link and infect my computer.  I'm ranting against supid and vicious.  I'd call you a crazy DSer, but in this case it's like the pot calling the kettle since I am a crazy (and *****y) DSer myself.  I don't think I've totally hijacked this thread, just took the stupid part in another direction.  A lot of those comments on the original story were beyond stupid and poorly written.

Have a gr8 weekend.

That's okay---be as incoherent as you'd like. (*grin*) It's Friday, time to rant, and stupidity is always a good thing to rant about.
