Question re: Pain Killers

When I broke my arm this summer, I found the Percocet only worked when I broke it in half before I swallowed it.

Also, coming off it was so hard- it was a true detox with cramps, hot-flashes...the whole thing. So know that it won't be fun, but it's so much better than being on them!

Thanks everyone.  I spoke with the surgeon and he is giving me a script for straight up Oxycontin.  Hopefully, this will help.

i think everyone is truly different. For me the percocet caused nausea and severe stomach pain (I was prescribed it after my gallbladder surgery).  The Vicodin 10/325 works fine for me with no nausea or problems. Morphine makes me sick as a dog but dilaudad works like a charm.

For those with RNY Extend release won't work well. and yes, you absorb it faster but you also need more faster (like every 3-4 hours) so be careful with physical addiction, can be really easy.

I tossed my percocet away and just used my vicodin.

Warmly,
Jackie

Thanks, Jackie.  I'll have to ask him about Vicodin.  That might be better.

Rachelle after my husband had hernia surgery we didn't really pay attention when they warned that pain killers are constipating. The pain from THAT hurt him worse than anything! preventive measures for when it starts working!!!  xoox

Hey Judi.  Oh, the constipation is awful.  Between taking iron 3 times a day and the pain killers, even my veggie and fiber intake isn't enough.  I have to take Dulcolax daily to go a couple times a week.

Thanks, EN.  I'll stop at CVS and pick some up on my way to physical therapy.

Hi Double P

We've missed you around here, so good to see your face. Hows the straight Oxy working for you ? Hopefully you are finding some relief from the pain. Feel better soon.

Hey Pump, I've missed you guys.  Life get in the way, yannow.

I just picked up the script, so I'll see how that works.  I can take the oxy and the percs...keeping my fingers crossed.  I'll try it tonight when I go to bed, just in case it messes with my head.
