It's good to hear that you got your band removed, that is no way to live, living with the band should never be painful or cause discomfort. You can sue, but there is a statue of limitations in some states of suing a surgeon if they placed your band wrong, usually it's within the first 2-3 years you can actually sue for malpractice, check with an attorney, this is why it is important to get a second opinion right away if you start having problems or complications.

Thank you for the advice. Well when you are being reassured that nothing is wrong and x rays cat scans come back normal you arent really sure what to do right away. Thankfully i caught it just in time!

Oh my so sorry that you had to have that pain.  My friend went through something like that.  I hope that you get everything taken care of and that you lose all the pounds you don't want.  I have met a few people who have to have the band removed.  I am so glad that I went with the sleeve.  So far so good I just wished that I would lose more weight.  I am not eating much, will I am not on foods yet just blended foods and lots of water.  I am ready to get under 200....I wish you well.

Well the sleeve is a new procedure. It wasnt available when i got the band done. With every surgery to get maximum results working out is a must! I lost a great amount of weight with the band. I also know a bunch of people removing the band within 4-5 years. Much success to you! Its a long journey! Like they day Rome wasnt built in a day and your weight loss will come with time. Good luck!

First thank you for sharing and second your story has made me very concerned for myself. I have had the band since Feb 2008. This year I have had pain slowly come on and increased strongly in June and since then I have had a upper GI, abdominal X-rays and a CT Scan full abdomen & pelvis. Everything came back normal. I have seen the doctor about 5 times since July and have been on the phone with the RN. I told the doctor there is definitely a problem. My middle & Left abdomen around the port is in pain. The pain will shoot up through my breast up to my left shoulder and around my left rib cage. The doctor agreed I need it removed. My doctor is not sure what is causing this problem, but is listening to me that something needs to be done. I am waiting for the insurance company to give approved to be revised to the sleeve.
My question for you is can you see on the CT scan the band is around the liver? Did the radiologist read the scan correctly? Make sure you get all your films and CD of everything you have had done. I have never read anything about the band growing into the liver. This just proves that anything can happen with the band. We truly do not know what is happening inside of our body and I know I need the doctor to remove it.

Camietam,

I'm sorry this is happening. You wouldn't even believe how many people I've heard say the exact same words as you have. It's incredible how much damage the band does. I'm SO glad you're opting to have it removed. You won't regret it.

You can tell your doctor that the BAND is what causes that pain you've described. Whether they see anything on Xrays or not, the band is causing pain in the left shoulder and around the ribcage. The diaphragm is like a "parachute" under your ribcage and the band irritates it a LOT. More than doctors realize or care to admit, in my opinion. When the diaphragm is irritated, it "refers" the pain to the left shoulder.

I had CT scans that showed nothing wrong with my band. And it was damaging my diaphragm the whole time. (6 years since band removal and I STILL have side effects from the damage.)

I hope all goes well for you and that you feel better really soon.
