Freaking out!

i feel for you. with my employer you have to have had the insurance for two consecutive years before they will cover the surgery. my two years will be up at the end of december. i am so worried that they will change the coverage and it will not be a benefit any longer. i would look into other insurance options. i would say go to the insurance forum and ask but it doesnt appear to be as active as the other forums on this site.

Nope. Fortunately my insurance doesn't require it. I work for the hospital that performs the surgery and per the surgery coordinator I wont have any problems getting approved but I am just worried that things will change. You know it is often the employees of hosptials and insurance companies that have the worse coverage. For instance my husband works for an insurance company and his plan doesnt cover any type of WLS but other people we know that work for other companies that have the same insurance their policies cover WLS. So I will continue to worry until I wake up from anesthesia and hear the nurse or the surgeon say "everything went well".
Have you started the "steps" yet towards surgery? What is the effective date of this new change with your insurance? DAVE

See if it's an exclusion for everybody or if there are criteria you can meet and still have it done. Can you get insurance through your employer that covers it, that's one option many women use.
See if your hubby has a choice of insurance plans. Check each out and go with the one that still covers wls. Many have it as an exclusion in one policy but not another. Check around with his insurance and with your employer and see if you can't get on one or the other that will cover you.
How about changing jobs (you) to an employer who covers it? I have friends who get jobs at the local college because their policy for employees covers weight loss surgery. See what you can
find out with your HR department and his.
