I can tell you that I was cooking healty and then placing the food on the blender including seafood soup with brown rice) and eating it.  My nutricionist was so happy.  I guess that it will depend on what you like and just go for it.  Good luck!
Well, some of us sometimes note the no so good things about loosing weight, I have to say that it serve on my case to find a fibroid and it will be removed.  Thanks God!

Hi Arlyn

I survived mostly on scram egg/cheese, mash potatoes and white fish.  You can have yogurts, SF pudding, baby food.  Hope this helps a bit.

Hi, I'm a newbie awaiting surgery.  I am confused though. Maybe you all can help me get straight.  I attended a "Success Habiuts" Workshop and the facilitator instructed us not to eat baby food.  I have not had a chance to discuss this with the nutritionist at my surgeons office yet.

I am in the same stage as you and I can tell you, I eat a lot of soup. Cottage cheese, protein shakes, low fat string cheese, scrambled eggs, yogurt. I have actually only pureed something once and that was turkey and gravy. I can't handle the texture so I just chew everything really well. Haven't had a problem yet!

Did the list give any guidelines?  My surgeon said I could eat whatever I felt up to eating as long
as it was smaller than an eraser.

I found my favorite soups (Progresso Minestrone, Italian Wedding Soup, etc.) were excellent
for putting into the blender, making the pieces as small or smaller than an eraser, heating in
the microwave, then after stirring to cool a little bit, adding a tablespoon or two an unflavored
protein.  It was a nice flavor without a lot of fuss.  I usually tried to avoid cream-based soups.

I found that a clam chowder was pretty unappetizing!!  Looked too much like it had been
regurgitated!!  (Sorry, TMI!!)

There's also Greek yoghurt w/s/f syrup or Stevia sweetner, and frozen fruit such as straw-
berries or blueberries.  Ricotta cheese with a tablespoonful of marinara sauce and some
parmesan cheese (heat in microwave).  Also, ricotta cheese w/your favorite s/f fruit topping
for a dessert.

It's all trial-and-error;  what might work for me may not work for you.  Just keep trying.

Best wishes,

Thanks..for the ideas..Im am trying most of what you're talking about. I am confused on when I eat soup how much I am supposed to eat at one time? Is it 2 oz or 4 oz?

What do the guidelines call for?

When doing any eating, especially when newly post-op, pay attention to your own body's full
signal.  I call it my HLA (High Level Alarm), and it's when my nose starts to run.  If I get the sniffles,
I quit eating.  Some folks sniffle, others hiccup, still others belch.  Whatever it is, when it happens,
just put the food down and quit eating.

One of the toughest lessons I had to learn was that I didn't HAVE to clean up my plate, and that
there are no starving children anywhere that will want to eat my leftovers.

It's called Mindful Eating;  paying attention to yourself and ignoring the old, tired messages we
were indoctrinated with from birth.

Good luck.

Hey Lynn,

I have seen you post before about the signals and not eating too much or to stop eating. My instructions said to make sure you eat whether you want to or not. I am careful to get the 3oz of pureed chicken because I know I need the protein and I want to minimize hair loss. Is the fact that I am eating up to the recommendations the reason why I can't lose? Do I just need to buy some unflavored protein and eat half amounts? I am so frustrated to be 12 days post op and not lost any weight. Am I really eating too much? I have posted on this before, and nothing has changed.

I went into surgery at 163, I came home at 170. One-week post op I weighed 156 and that is were the scale stays. I keep reading about 20 pound weight losses week one. At least that much by week 2. I have followed all of my instructions, getting in 90+ grams of protein week one and 70+ since switching to stage 3 puree foods week two. I have only been getting 40-50 grams of water but I am having trouble figuring out when to drink more when I quit 1/2 hour before, 1/2 hour during, and 1/2 after each meal. That's nearly five hours of water drinking out of my day, but that is a different subject.

I feel great. In fact it's real easy to believe this whole experience was a dream. No pain, no weight loss, just scars.

The instructions to eat "whether you want to or not" is because so many of
us no longer have a "hunger" signal, and often fail to eat, waiting to hear from
our tummy that it's hungry. It ain't gonna happen!

Yes, eat on a schedule if that's what it takes to get your protein in. But to avoid irritating that techy little critter, Pouchy, you need to pay attention to your full signals. If you do overeat, you are verylikely to have issues with vomiting, and
you don't want to do that if you can help it.

12 days post-op is a little early to worry about not losing, I promise. For your own sanity, I definitely recommend staying off the scale. Don't weigh yourself at home, wait for your surgeon checkups. That's what I did, and it really helps if you don't
know about those plateaus!

I promise you that you won't be a failure. Just do the best you can to get your liquids in. You may not (probably not) be able to avoid losing hair, but it does
come back.

As to the water, just sipping all day will work.

It's all an ongoing process--don't worry, you'll be shopping at Victoria's Secret in
no time!!

Best wishes,
