I've been on an iron supplement since surgery, and have just become anemic, though my ferritin has always run on the low side. I will be starting IV iron infusions Monday weekly for 4 weeks.

I don't think it's easy to get enough iron from food, and I haven't absorbed enough from additional supplements, either.

Solise  do U like Kale  (  collard greens ?)    or Brussels sprouts or STEAK   ?!!   just eat all these in  a  semi -raw form and Ur iron levels will normalize .... that means pink in the middle  - medium rare  steak .  Try  outback steakhouse or applebees    .. they make a wonderful lean cut filet mignon or flatiron  steak  for about 12.99  and 300  calories ...

Yes, I like all those foods except kale. Thanx for the tip. At this point I'm willing to try anything. I feel so crappy.

I think this is backwards. Most people do better on the carbonyl and don't do very well on the ferrous sulfate.

I'm sure you get *some* iron from food---but because all of your duodenum is bypassed, it's pretty much impossible for you to get ENOUGH iron from food. Even taking oral supplements isn't enough for many people. Look into a supplement called Proferrin---it's better absorbed than other oral supplements. And you can ask your PCP about iron infusions.

Im on an prescription iron supplement called HEMAX SR. I also eat lots of liver, spinach and other greens. Beets in my fresh fruit and vegrtable juice helps me too.
