I will be 6 years post RNY December 16th and have been given the wonderful opportunity to stick to my program and maintain.  I was lucky enough to have a full tummy tuck in January 2009 and had to have it revised 10 months later due to some elastricity on the tummy.  Well as tight as my muscles are, the skin did start to loosen up again with a year and now, 2 years later since the revision it is a little looser, now bearing in mind it's worse when I sit than when I stand and I don't have the hanging panni anymore thankfully, and it is flat when I stand, but I just hate the little muffin top I feel when I sit or wear jeans or a tight top.  I went to see another PS a couple weeks ago who said he could revise it for me again and that it's not uncommon for this to happen to WLS patients.  Is this true, can it keep happening, are we really suseptible to this and is it worth going through more surgery only to see this happen again after a year or two?  Part of me says I need to accept and move on and the other part says have it done but will it really be long term.

Is there anyone here who has been through this?

PLEASE HELP ADVISE

Thank you

You're lucky you were able to afford 2 plastic surgeries, or have your insurance pay for them. I've never seen a post on this topic in 5 years.  Typically, most plastic surgeons recommend a stable wt and waiting at least 18 months post op before considering plastic surgery. But you've gone past that time.  I could be possible your surgeon chose not to tighten you abdomen as much as possible to make your recovery easier.  I know a few women in my post op groups who had minor complaints about walking erect after plastics, due to very tight abdominal feeling from surgery.  I know a few women to that had plastics done 2-3 years ago, but these women have no complaints about their surgery. The only complaints I've heard is from women who "rushed their plastic surgery" having it done earlier than 18 months post op--these women did return for a tune up surgery, but no complaints past that point.  DAVE

Hi

I have had a lot of plastic surgery. I was told that our skin may not be as resiliant because of years of yo-yo dieting, stretching and sometimes poor nutrition.  Age and genetics also plays a part in how elastic your skin will be.  I do have some sagging even after the plastics.  I too consider going for more but I am really happy with the way I look so I don't think I will.  That is just me...if you aren't happy and can afford more plastics...well everybody has to decide for themselves....

Advice? Chill out about a little bit of OH HORRORS MUFFIN TOP. Knock off the assumption that you must have a perfectly taut belly. You are now a normal adult female. Trying to make yourself into a Barbie doll is indicative of psychopathology.

If you can't stand your OH HORRORS MUFFIN TOP that much, then it's time for therapy, not surgery.

The world is going to hell in a thousand different ways. Go spend the money and the energy and the passion on something that will actually make a difference in the lives of some people who are suffering instead of obsessing about a little flap of skin that nobody else gives a damn about.

I thought I was being very restrained. When the body dysmorphia is such that misery ensues from a bit of muffin top under a tight shirt at a size 6 after TWO plastic surgeries, it's time to talk about things other than MORE surgery.

I think the responses to your post to her make my point very well.

ETA: I take it back, a size 6 is "way too big."

I'm afraid I have to agree with you. I was just trying to suggest that she have some slightly larger pants cut down and tailored to her waist size, not to insult her. Quelle horreur!!

Well, we must not allow ourselves to be overborne by sadness at not being able to
help her, but soldier on under that burden..

Onward!!!!

And I am kinda cranky at Zero Dark-Thirty myself!
