When I was first diagnosed with diabetes and put on Byetta, I saw a diabetic nutritionist.  When my blood sugar would drop very quickly, I would get clammy/sweaty and jittery/lightheaded.  The best thing to do immediately is to drink a bit of juice to get your sugar back up.  Even the info that came with the meds mentions juice, or to always carry something like Life Savers or a hard candy with you.  A simple sugar is best when you are crashing and at a point where you could pass out or go into seizures (like Shelby in Steel Magnolias).  You don't need much, and after you get out of the danger zone, best to have some more complex carbs.  And the bit about combining sugar/carbs with fat are better in that your sugar doesn't rise or crash as fast when combined with fat.

I have experienced low blood sugar many times since I've had surgery, especially if I eat carb-laden foods on an empty stomach. My doctor told me to drink a glass of milk when this happens, and it works for me every time. Within 10-20 minutes, my glucose has evened out and I'm feeling good again.
