Thanks Maria.  I hope so too; however, I have no expectations until such time as she realizes she has got some pretty severe emotional issues she needs to get to work on and get some professional help.

While being estranged from her is the most difficult journey I've ever been forced to take, I simply had to one day draw the line with her and can only wish her the best.

The best gift I ever received was was from my DH.  He gave me my sleeve last year.  I was self pay so it cost a bundle.  I told him that covers Christmas gifts for a long time.  Best gift I could ever receive.

Well, I have a couple.  My dear hubby is not the best at buying gifts... now, he just asks my sister what to get me... but when he was on his own, he put a lot of thought in but still got not quite so good gifts.  One Christmas, I had mentioned to him that I wanted to work on getting in shape and was looking into getting my teeth whitened.  Well, needeless to say Christmas morning, I opened up a set of freeweights and a video-- "Working out with Weights for Dummies"  along with a box of Crest White Strips.
As a child, my mother had images of turning me into a mini her... so for Christmas when I was 8 years old, my parents bought me a very expensive sewing machine and was going to teach me how to sew...  my mom actually still has the sewing machine,... and sewing has become an invaluable skill post op so that I can alter some of my pre-op clothing that I love... but when my friends were getting barbies, I was getting stuff to make barbie clothes!

However, I must say my parents and hubby have gotten me some very good gifts too.  When I was 17, my parents gave me a trip to Spain and France (of course mom came with too).  On our first married Christmas, hubby gave me an precious kitten I saw in a pet store that I thought was too cute (hubby is not a cat person)... still have him as a grown cat... and he is our trouble making cat and I know drives hubby crazy... but hubby says nothing... although yesterday hubby came home with a forever lazy (for those of you unfamiliar with this wonderful as seen on tv product--think snuggie with legs) and gave it to me as an early Christmas present because I am always saying I am cold... however not something I really wanted and hubby misread the size chart and when I tried it on, it looked like a 3 size too big cookie monster outfit (it was cookie monster blue)... that will be going back...

Just the commercial for the Forever Lazy cracks me up.

That commercial basically says "When you have to tear yourself away for your couch potatoeness long enough to get the the fridge for junk, and your too lazy to pull down your pants to go the the bathroom..." lol.

I'll admit, I'd have worn one yesterday.

My birthday is on Christmas, so I can be a bit sensitive about Christmas/birthday gifts (yes still, give me one or the other damn it!) Anyway my EX husband always knew this, and one year he gave me to of his greatest gifts (he thought).  One was a new Vacuum as I was not doing a good enough job at it and ours must be just old, and the second was a new casserole set.  He said he was tired of having the same things, and maybe with new baking dishes I could expand on my cooking potential...I can laugh now, but was horrified opening them up in front of the family.  No, if you are wondering did I get birhday cakes when young?  I got birthday pies!  :(

Christmas birthdays are hard, my son was born on December 19th.  I always bent over backwards to have birthday parties that were totally seperate from Christmas.  My son had fun themes and characters at each, Batman, Mickey Mouse, Clowns etc when he was small and when he got alittle older I invited all his friends to Chuck E Cheese, or roller skating rink or bowling alley or movie theater for his birthday parties.  I always thought trying to have a baby on Christmas was a romantic idea until I had a house full of little kids and it was too cold to go outside for his birthday.

Happy Early Birthday!
