I don't know about caffeine and hair loss, but low protein, low iron, and low thyroid can all contribute to hair loss, as well as stress, medications, anesthesia, pregnancy.

are you tracking your protein grams? maybe, you're not getting enough

I drink a couple cups of black coffee everyday and also hot green tea.  My hair has returned to its normal thickness and is very healthy.  Sounds like nutritional issues-have you had labs recently?  Also make sure you are getting the required protein amount each day (not a problem for me as I can eat plenty and get at least 120 grams per day).

Whatever you do--DON'T PANIC!!  The extra stress will just make the problem worse!!

Caffeine is not a diuretic under normal cir****tances.

It's a myth.

Q: Is it true that caffeine-containing drinks have a diuretic effect and result in a loss of fluid?

A: No. Despite the popularity of this long-held belief -- even among some health professionals -- research does not support it. While it's true that caffeine in large amounts can temporarily increase urinary fluid loss, studies show that beverages containing moderate amounts of caffeine, like coffee, tea and soft drinks, hydrate our bodies just as well as drinks without caffeine. When it comes to calculating daily fluid intake, caffeinated drinks should be counted along with other liquids.

Thanks everyone! I need to look into my protein and see if I'm getting enough. I have been really stressed and working a lot lately......I'm really not eating and sleeping well, so I was drinking a lot more coffee than usual. Hopefully I can calm down and start eating better. You all gave me a lot to think about! Thanks again!

Caffeine is not dehydrating. This is a myth. It has a slight diuretic effect but the amount you pee in a 24 hour period is no different than if you don't consume caffeine. And teh diuretic effect lessens if you ingest caffeine regularly.

7 years out...many times freaking out over hair loss.
I have jessica simpson extentions for when I go out but other than that...sure I want thicker hair ~but realy not much you can do about it.
It comes in phases when ever the body is stressed or has drastic changes. I followed all recommendations of more protein or biotin on iron hir loss treatments  blah blah blah lol but never noticed a diff. The hair thins than recovers than thins than recovers. I miss thicker hair but no1 catualy cares that its thinner so I stopped as well. Dont fret just enjoy your thinner bod :)

I had the same thing happen to me at about 2 years out.  It turned out I had a vitamin B deficiency which can also cause hairloss and make you feel like you have no energy.
I take injections twice a month and my hair has grown back.

Dont hesitate to contact your physician and get your labwork checked.

Hi Susan,

I have been slacking on my B12 and my vitamin D...... They may be my issue! I have been feeling tired lately as well. Thank you! I just took a dose of both..... This has really been an eye opener for me on how I haven't been following the rules. Time to get back on track! Good thing is, I haven't gained any weight back, but that is only because I'm hardly eating...

Thanks again and Happy Holidays to you!

I dunno.  I live on diet coke and my shower drain is clear as a whisk.
