this is a whole new world for me, since i'm 8 short days postop with my sleeve!  very excited, but completely bowled over by all the post-WLS products out there...

i'm looking for an unflavored protein powder, preferably with ingredients i can pronounce on the first try... not lots of added junk & creepy stuff.  any suggestions??

thanks!

 None.

Unflavored proteins are particularly nasty.

well,  that's just the balls!  :(  shouldn't bother with them then?

Speaking of balls might I suggest you get a blender ball if you do not already.  It's a god send and it only costs about $8 at a GNC, or less online at diet direct, and it makes protein powders way easier to drink.

I mix hot cocoa powder, french vanilla protein powder, and starbucks VIA every morning with my blender ball and it is the best iced coffee around. No clumps at all.

The protein powder brand that I use is Optimum Nutrition and the 5lb tub costs about $48 (vitacost.com) .  It seems to last quite a while for me as I use 2 scoups a day.

Max SEI protein.
I don't know if they have unflavored but the vanilla is a good base, then add whatever flavors you like.

Dave Chambers here on OH sells some unflavored. See if you can find him and ask.

Your best bet is to go here  www.vitalady.com and check out her samples before buying a large tub of whatever.

If you're up for a road trip, try out your local Vitamin Shoppe and see if they have samples. Sometimes they do.

Understand that the test tube protein "shots" are NOT the protein that our bodies need post op.

Costco has muscle milk light and their vanilla is good, so is the Premeire protein. The muscle milk is a powder and the Premiere protein is RTD (ready to drink)

Get a bullet, tiny footprint in the kitchen. Have had mine for over a year and it's saved me a ton of money!

I have wasted enough of my life worrying about what people think of me.

The whey version is always harder to incorporate into hot foods but the soy version is better for hot food. I would keep both on hand and use the soy less often. Soy will give you less protein than whey but it can be added to soups and hot cereal.

The bulk barn is where I got mine...it was ideal for price and I can get a small amount when I need it and don't need room for a jug of it!

I've been adding it wherever I can...and it helps because after being on optifast the last thing you want to sip on is a chocolate shake...so if I can get it in my soup...I'm happy.

You should work to find a suitable protein that works for you.  This is something you cannot cut corners on.  The key to much weight loss is getting your protein in.  If you don't you risk not being able to loose as much weight.  Upping your protein and water intake will help you get past "stalls" and ensure your metabolism keeps burning fat.
If you don't find a protein drink that works for you, then you will be back to the junk and creepy stuff that will ultimately leave you obese, again.
Again, getting the protein in is key to weight loss.
I would hope that you would have discussed some of this prior to surgery with someone. I recommend you contact your surgeon and request some resources in your area.
There are also people here such as Melting Mama, Vita-lady that can assist you.
Good luck

thanks!  and no worries, i've been taking my protein drinks as my surgeon prescribed & simply not reading the ingredient labels.  something about blissful ignorance...? :)

i had no idea there was such a thing as unflavored protein powder until i joined OH yesterday & read about it.  so i wanted to learn more about it.   in theory it sounds dreamy to get my protein in;  looking online at ingredient lists, the fairy tale has burst.  so i was hoping there was one i had missed...

pre-op (and for most of my life),  i ate organic, local, seasonal (just waaaay too much), it's now i was raised & it continued to make sense to me as an adult.   i'm trying to stay as close as that as possible in my new food life while making sure i'm adequately nourished.  i know i'll have to make concessions regarding processing/chemicals, but i'd like to keep it to a minimum.  just feeling out what that minimum may be...

Wow, I forgot to post other things.
I found Greek yogurt has 14 gm of protein per serving.  My protein drink has 23 per serving so I can sub two Greek yogurts per day.  I favor blueberry and only care for one brand.  I suggest you prepare to test more than one at a time, your tastes will change over the coming months.
Almonds and soy bean products, they have lots of protein. I would also suggest you start snooping a a natural food store in your area.  Happy hunting.
