I too have had issues with tolerating the taste of protien shakes.  I have found carnation instant breakfast no sugar added,  i mix 2 cups skim milk with 2 packets of the instant breakfast for 26gms protien and I drink 2 of these a day for total 52gms.  It tastes nothing like protien and doesnt get thick or clumpy.  Keeps the texture of the milk, which is great!  They dont have any fruity flavors but I mix vanilla w/ the chocolate and its like chocolate milk. Also I am getting aprox 1L of my fluid intake with the 2 shakes.   Good luck finding what will work for you!

Where have you found the carnation sugar free? I've heard that alot but every store I've checked in my area doesn't carry the sugar free? This sounds ideal for me too!

The thing with me and the shots is I always buy them with the best intentions and start using them but I always seem to quit using them because I don't like the taste.

My thing with the protein drinks is that you have to experiment until you find one that you absolutely L-O-V-E so that you stick with it. Everyone has different tastes so go out and get sample packs and mix around with drinks you like until you fine one like me that you get addicted to.

For me It's Optimum Nutrition (French Vanilla) powder (~$48 for a 5lb tub), various sugar free hot cocoa mixes (Nestle is my favorite), and various VIA Starbucks instant packets.  I usually like the caramel coffee flavor and it has a lot of sugar in it but I can use the straight Italian roast too that has no sugar.  I blender ball it so there is no clumps at all.  The blender ball is KEY because it makes powdered protein drinkable.  I don't do protein clumps.   You can also make your own hot cocoa mix with Hershey's cocoa powder, a bit of vanilla, and some sugar or splenda.  I premix my powders and take the pre-measured amount with me to work in a tiny container and mix it over ice and drink it every morning.

Hi there,
from what I understand, the protein shots do not have the correct type of protein, we need whey.  I use vanilla isopure and use torani sugar free syryps and ff pudding to flavor them.

The only protein drinks I could ever stand, but that I STILL drink (at least one a day, even more than three years post-op) is the Pure Protein brand ready-made shakes in 11.5 oz soda-like cans.

They have 35 grams of protein, only 2 or 4 carbs (depending on the flavor). They have 170 or 160 calories (depending on the flavor), and 1 or 2 g of sugar (again, depending on the flavor).

There are several flavors -- I prefer the Frosty Chocolate, Cookies 'n Creme and Vanilla Creme, but there is also Banana Creme, and also, Strawberry. They can be purchased at GNC, Trader Joe's and Fresh & Easy, as well as online. They are pricey, but most of the protein stuff is, and my recommendation is to get them at Fresh & Easy, where they're usually $1.99 a can, at least $1.35 a can cheaper than I've seen anywhere else. Sometimes, F & E even has them on sale for $1.50 a can.

They are shakes, and are best when drank cold, and over a couple cubes of ice. Shake can well before open and pour into a glass with ice in it. Voila! They're good-tasting, and no work is involved in making them.

I like them, and they do the job as far as helping with the protein. I usually take a can to work with me each day and drink it at lunch.

I have not liked any of the fruity Nectar protein I have tried. I could not get past the protein smell (and taste).  The vanilla and cappuccino were okay.

My protein drink is vanilla protein powder mixed with sf torani syrup (hazelnut,  caramel,  kalhua, chocolate) mixed into a paste. It is important to mix the powder into cold liquid first.   I add some soy milk too sometimes. Add brewed coffee a little at a time stiring constantly.  If it is not hot enough due to milk I nuke it for 30 - 40 seconds.  Too long and it gets clumpy.

Protein shots are mostly collagen and not absorbed well.  It is not a good source of protein for anyone let alone WLS patients.
