You might have to make it very soupy at this point. Best bet: ask your nut FIRST.
Pretty soon, you should be good to go with it without a question!

Soupy oatmeal and cream of wheat are on my list for the first two weeks post-op, but I know all docs vary.
If you are on the regular phase of your diet (i.e., not on liquids or softs), you can have whatever you want and can tolerate. The question isn't "can I have it?" but "what are the consequences?" Then it's up to you to decide if those consequences are acceptable.
For me, I rarely eat oatmeal even the lower carb versions because the protein to carb ratio doesn't cut it for me and because the instant versions have so much sugar. Plus, it's a slider food that doesn't really satisfy me the way other alternatives do. I did eat it more when I was early out because my choices were so limited and it did go down easy.
OTOH, I do eat stuff that has even more carbs and even less protein. But only occasionally and it's stuff that really floats my boat. Oatmeal doesn't float my boat enough to be "worth it" to me.
As an example, yesterday I had some high protein cereal with soy milk. This breakfast had 13 g of protein but that came with 25 g of carbs, 7 g of sugar and 250 calories. OTOH, Quaker carb control Instant oatmeal has about the same amount of carbs and sugar but only half the protein and 100 less calories. So I consider them to both be reasonable choices for someone 3.5 years out in maintenance but I wouldn't eat them when I was losing because that's a lot of carbs for such a little amount of protein.
Btw, "Carb control" instant oatmeal has about the same number of carbs as making a cup of regular oatmeal on the stove. That's because the flavorings include a lot of sugar.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I am currently on pureed foods, and am finding myself bored with some of the stuff I've had. Luckily for me I guess that I love refried beans. Those I can never find myself bored with!
I guess I was figuring oatmeal would be a good consistency, but now I'm thinking even that might be too thick. I guess asking my NUT would be a good first step!
I guess I was figuring oatmeal would be a good consistency, but now I'm thinking even that might be too thick. I guess asking my NUT would be a good first step! When I was on the puree stage I ate cream of rice....like cream of wheat (but I am gluten free). I would still check with your surgeon.....
I do eat oatmeal now and have started adding protein powder to it........ I take the Oatmeal (steel cut or Bob's red mill) add half an apple add water and micro....then I add Roy Robb vanilla protein powder to it (doesn't clump) and more water to get the right consistency..then top it off with some chopped walnuts and cinnamon......... great way to get the right ratio of carbs to protein and no artificial sweeteners made with Stevia.
I have no restriction right now and this keeps me full (if at a thicker consistency).....
Congrats on your surgery!
Michele
