Thank you all for the information!!  I am so looking forward to my surgery.  I tend to get mixed reactions as I am not starting off as big as people seem to think call for such a drastic measure.  I was very happy to see a Dr. Oz show not long ago where he said that he thinks that we should be having the surgery earlier and more often.  I

'Real' food is perfectly okay---there's no real benefit of liquid over a high-protein, low-carb diet of solid foods. The whole idea here is to use up the glycogen stores in your livr, making it less 'slippery' to work with---and that's what the low-carbing does. The high-protein part helps build up yoour protein stores, for better healing post-op, when you'll be struggling to get in th protein your body needs.

Am I reading your ticker correct? Do you only have 65 pounds to lose? If so, I strongly urge you to seriously consider getting the VSG/gastric Sleeve instead of the RNY. It's a restriction-only surgery, no malabsorption---you'd still have a fully-functional (although MUCH smaller!) stomach and could still take medications containing NSAIDs. After the RNY, NSAIDs are a big no-no.

You are like me- what they call a "lightweight". I started at 230, and am now 120. I did surgery because of my health- breast cancer gave me the kick in the rear I needed- but I also had high cholesterol, sleep apnea, hiatal hernia with Barrette's Esophogas, as well as a gall bladder full of stones. My health is now much improved.

I wanted the sleeve, but insurance wouldn't cover it. You might want to look into it.

But I now wouldn't trade my surgery for anything. It got my weight off, and now it's up to me to maintain my weight.
