?? about being tired after surgery
RNY on 04/16/12
I have read that alot of people in the begging are really tired. I was wondering how tired I may be and for how long. I had a tooth pulled and it has really been bad and the pain meds ive been taking have been nocking me out but i hurt they had trouble pulling it so i have stitches and i look like some one beat me with a bat any way. I fell asleep on the couch for a few min. I cant be doing this when my baby boy gets into everything a whole thing of powdered cappoteno on the floor to clean up. My mother in law will be staying with me for about a month to help. Loretta
Depends on which surgery you have and whether or not you have complications.
When I had my lap band done, I had it done on a Wednesday and was back to work the following Tuesday.
When I had my VSG, I was out for a month, but could have gone back in two weeks.
When I had my DS, I had an infection in one of my incisions and I was out for two months.

It is major surgery, so you need to give yourself enough time to recover- at least 2 weeks. Having your mother-in-law there to help out for a month should cover you.

Great planning to have your mother in law stay to help you for a while. You'll have times when you feel like you need to take a nap and go ahead and do it. Don't think of it as an indulgence but as something your body needs to heal itself fully. You'll need time to get accustomed to your new eating plan and progress through the levels your surgeon or dietician/nutritionist gives you. You'll need to take some time to start walking as you feel you're able to do so. This is a crucial period when healing the pouch is important and you want to be selfish and take the time for you.
Good luck.
Good luck.
