Sigh! Why give me chocolates?

Honestly, yesterday was frustrating enough, and I know she meant well, but why did my neighbor give me a box of damn liqueur chocolates?

She doesn't know about the surgery, but she knows I'm trying to lose weight.  Chocolate has been a big temptation for me, so I took the chocolates to another neighbor's house who was having a get together.  Who was there?  The neighbor who gave me the chocolates!

She was mad that I brought the chocs for everyone to share.  I told her that they were such a temptation for me trying to lose weight and at 200 calories for 4 chocolates, I couldn't have them around.  DS doesn't eat chocolate ;and DH is away right now.  I'm stuck with the bloody things.

Turns out apparently that they are very expensive at $32/pound.  I told her I didn't realize or I wouldn't have brought them to share.  So now they are back in the house with me.  I'm chucking them in the bin (at least what is left of them)

I don't think she is trying to sabotage me at all.  She's an older lady and a bit ditsy and I just don't think she makes the connection when I tell her I'm trying to lose weight with chocolates being a bad choice for a gift however well meant.

this is the same woman that handed me a glass of wine a week after surgery after I told her alcohol wasn't agreeing with me so I wasn't drinking.  (I just held it and pretended to drink it before abandoning it by the sink.)

Some people are definitely clueless if not downright thoughtless.  We have my in-laws living in a suite in our place and my DH and his mom made cinnamon buns together on Valentine's Day.  I love cinnamon buns and the smell of them baking was incredible.  Well, we were all invited to visit have some.  My DH was quite surprised I refused the invitation and said I didn't want to sit there drinking tea while watching everyone else eat the cinnamon buns.

Too late,  I chucked those bad boys in the garbage and I didn't feel the least bit bad about it because as much as it sounds ungrateful, she shouldn't have given me expensive chocolates in the first place.

The neighbors did have some when I took them over but she guilted me into taking the rest back home by telling me how expensive they were.  I sound like an ingrate because I'm sure she was trying to be nice, but I need to think about myself and what is good for me.

**** she even knows I am(was) diabetic.

I do the same thing and don't feel bad.

I got 7 pounds of chocolate from various people for Christmas, all of whom knew I had WLS.

I threw away 6 of the 7 boxes.  Kept the "good" dark chocolate box.  Said during the end of the year, I'd have one piece a day.  First day I had one.  Second day I had one.  Third day I had two.  Fourth day I had four.  Five day they got trashed too.

OMG  7 pounds of chocolate!  Pretty thoughtless as they all knew you had WLS- who does that?  Sheesh.

It was and wasn't thoughtless at the same time.

A few folks didn't get me food.  I appreciated that.

What most people did was go out and buy 20 boxes of chocolates for their co-workers, and gave one to each person.  So everyone got the same thing.  A few may have reasoned "maybe he'll give it to his partner".

Holidays and food are twisted together pretty tightly, unfortunately.

But yeah, I'd rather they save their money than place something in my hands that's a trigger for me.
