I was sleeved 11 days ago. I have recovered very nicely, however I have only lost 5 lbs.which is a bit disheartening. It seems like most people lose very quickly in the beginning. Also, I am having a difficult time consumimg the liquid protein at this point and still have 5 days to go on my liquid diet. I am not discouraged, but frustrated....

Relax.  Your body just went through  major surgery and is suffering from shock. I bet in a few more days you will start seeing the results.  Weigh only once a week so you don`t get frustrated. Then when the weight drops off you will see dramatic results!

Find some protein shakes you like and sip them all day.  You will get your protein in that way.  Or mix sugar free yoghurt, etc into a shake.

I still drink at least one protein shake a day and I had surgery 2 years ago.  We need to keep our proteins up as your body doesn`t absorb all you put into it.  If your proteins get low you will start craving carbs - bread, crackers, junk food, potatoes, rice, etc. so keep èm up!

I think sleevers do absorb everything they eat, including protein.  They just eat smaller amounts, but do not malabsorb.

It is too early to be worrying much about getting in much.  A few sips from a protein shake every hour of so would be fine.  I had one shake a day for a few weeks and it would take all day to fini****  You are still healing.  Try to slowly sip water every 15 minutes or so.

Weight loss is not that drastic unless you were extremely overweight to start with.

Average weight loss is 100 pounds in one year

Month 1 – 20 pounds

Month 2-6 – 10 pounds

Month 7-12 – 5 pounds

I'm 19 days post op for RNY but from what I've seen most people start to lose slowly at this point. I had a hard time with protein drinks too. I found that flavorless protein from Isopure was the best and I mixed it with a sugarfree crystal light.

People actually stall out most of the time in the first month.  Don't worry about how much you're losing yet.  Just focus on getting in your fluids and protein.  Keep sipping all day long.

RNY on 02/22/12
I know the same feeling, had a RNY on 2/22 and came home on Friday and had gained 4 lbs from when I left for the hospital....how the hell can that be. As of this morning I am at the starting weight I was when admitted to hospital. I had lost 39 lbs since mid-November on my own, then shock of surgery, and of course the gas they put in you and inflammation takes a toll. I have my first follow up with my surgeon on Wednesday 3/1 and hopefully some of this changes!!
