Self Pay looking for options SW Ohio
Hi all. I'm brand new here and researching the sleeve. My insurance policy excludes all bariatric surgeries so if I do this...I pay for it. I've been checking prices in my area but have also seen where people have traveled for a better price. I've also seen Mexico mentioned. Not sure I'm comfortable with going that far though.
Does anyone have any recommendations and info about self pay pricing preferably within 4-5 hr drive of SW Ohio?
Thanks
Krista

Hi - been researching the sleeve for myself, I am also self-pay. - I live in NE Ohio but am from Cincinnati originally. Up this way - Cleveland Clinic, Akron docs - self pay - 18500-21000. Have you checked with Dr Trace Curry in Cincinnati? Last fall when I was checking - I believe I was told 14-15000 for self pay.
I'm looking forward to see the other replies to your post. I am worried about having to self pay for any complications since Insurance won't cover the orginal WLS, don't think they will pay for complications either.
Whatever you decide - good luck
Paula.

No clue about pricing.. My insurance covered mine at Cincinnati Childrens hospital.. (i;m 16) but i know a woman who had wls at miami valley hospital... kettering hospital (on southern blvd) has a bariatric center aswell, so you could check into that.
Cleveland clinic is definatley good.. my family has been there numerous times for other things.. i can only assume their bariatric surgeon is as great as the rest of their doctors.

The costs were astronomical here in Rochester MN at the Mayo Clinic, so I am traveling to Dallas TX for my sleeve surgery. It will cost $13000 (with airfare for my husband and me). I know it might be cheaper in Mexico, but my husband and I weren't comfortable with that option.
Do what feels right for you.
Thanks,

I had the sleeve done at Kettering Memorial with the Kettering Bariatrics clinic, with Dr. David Schumacher. Just had my sleeve 2.5 months ago. Dr. Schumacher is a great Dr. and I have had NO problems and almost no pain at all.
My insurance covered most of mine, but you should give him a call and see what he charges ....I know his Dr fees for the surgery is about 4000$.... but call and find out.

Self pay sleeve in the states is going to run you at least 15G. Mexico would be under 10. I had a full virgin DS for 13 in Hermasillo with Ungson. As long as you research and go with a repetuable surgeon, you are fine.
My surgery included 5 days hotel, 4 days hospital, surgeon, asst surgeon, internist, anes. sp?, private nurse, private hospital. Most the more common hospital in Mexico are going to have self pay packages which is a benefit to them. They are used to Americans and ask how they handle it. Go with someone. Ungson usually has at least 3 Americans a week. So I was very comfortable. I don't suggest going through a medical tourism group, I suggest going with a surgeon that has his own patient coordinator.
