I'm having problems with constipation again even though I'm taking Miralax every day (last 3 days ). I took a laxative yesterday ( citrate magnesium) and nothing. I'm wondering if I should up my Miralax to twice a day...anybody have any tips?

You may want to talk to your Dr.  Too many laxitives are not good.

As you read this, try to look past the TMI and consider the practical application.  women really have an advantage with this:

The vaginal wall is right against the colon.  If you are bound up, you may be able to feel it through the vaginal wall, and massage it to change shape so your body can pu**** out.  I've done this a few times in my life with great success.

I buy bite size prunes and eat them in the evening as a snack.  Every morning I have success and no strain.  I also make sure I drink at a minimum 8 cups of liquids per day.

Good luck in WORKING this out :)

Magnesium only works as laxative if your body is not depleted in magnesium. Apparetly you did not take enough of it.
If your are depleted in magnesium - mag citrate will be absorbed in the body and not work as laxative. I take mag citrate with calcium - and then take app 800 mg of mag oxide every night to get good BM in the morning.

Here's my suggestion, based on my doctor's office suggestion to me:

First, take a stimulant laxative (ExLax or something) to get the problem removed.

Second, find a program that keeps you regular. You really don't want to be taking laxatives all the time as your body can become dependent on them. Not so stool softeners and fiber. I use a dose of store-brand Colace every day and make sure I get at least 20 grams of fiber (I'm usually around 30). Veggies have it, but if you're still working to get your protein in a Quest fiber bar or some Benefiber unflavored in your drink will do the trick.

According to my surgreon, each patient "has to find their own recipe to deal with constipation".  Miralax did nothing for me.  I eat 2-3 prunes at a time, 3 times a day.  I take 4 stool softeners daily.  Movement usually helps too.  I've had to resort to a Colace suppository at times, as I found that standard glycerine suppositories did nothing but cause gas.  Daily laxatives are generally considered a poor decision to deal with this issue.
