Ok so people are so desperate to lose weight they'll let a dr insert a feeding tube giving 800 cal of nutrition a day and supposedly they're losing lotsbof weight. Well how come when I eat 800 calories a day the scale doesn't move....am I missing something?

Think of it as an Extreme Atkins Reboot - The idea is to get your body into ketosis, which is what occurred your first few weeks as a post-op.  In the spirit of Atkins, if you stay on protein and fat from there on, your body will, stay in ketosis and continue burning your body fat for fuel.  Realistically, though, this is a very short-term thing.  Just like Atkins, once you reintroduce carbs back to your system, that physiology starts to change back.

Ok so that makes a lot of sense but seems drastic and really dumb.

I saw this on the Today Show. They are marketing it as the "bride-to-be" diet. For $1500 a doctor will insert of feeding tube down your throat for 2 weeks with promises of losing up to 20 lbs. I don't think it's meant to be a long term thing.

Pretty disturbing.

FYI...the "Bride to Be" diet takes advantage of a NASO-GASTRIC tube (fed through your nose directly into your stomach) and feeds ONLY nutrient rich proteins into your small intestine.  You take in supplements continuously w/o eating by mouth.  IMO...it's a ridiculous and costly way to
lose 20 lbs which you will likely gain back on your honeymoon....hahaha.

Eat nutrious foods in proper portions and drink plenty of fluids and you may lose weight the natural way!

*sigh*

Saw this on the news this morning and my jaw dropped.  Why the heck would you do something like that to yourself?  This doctor ought to be stopped from doing such a thing.  Just my opinion, of course.

Having been in several involuntary relationships pre-op with various NG tubes, I literally thought I had mis-read this. Are people really that desperate?

And personally, I think the docs offering this service should be sanctioned. NO ONE in their right mind would go through 2 weeks with an NG tube just to lose 20lbs, and I think it's unethical that it's even being offered.

Pathetic. Reminds me of that mesh-on-tongue thing that
Beth posted about a while back. I pray for these people. I really do.
