2 weeks Post-Op - tired and frustrated
RNY on 03/27/12
I am 3.5 weeks post-op, so I'm not that far ahead of you. At my 2 week appointment, I had lost 12 pounds - but ALL were water and muscle. Not one single ounce of fat! My surgeon told met that I had not been getting enough calories so my body had gone into starvation mode (thus, using the water and muscle instead of fat). To reverse this, he gave me some IV fluids, increased my caloric, protein, and fluid requirements. In 3 days I'd lost 1.5lbs of FAT and I've just kept going from there.
Does your doctor have a scale that measures your body composition? If so, you may want to find out whats going on behind the scenes to make sure that your body isnt going into starvation mode like mine. I was super active the week of surgery, but after that I also was tired, dry, and lethargic. I've also been in a major funk, so I'm concerned that your body may be rebelling like mine has.
Just a point of conversation to have with your surgeon. Supplements (especially D and B12) are HUGE in energy and depression, but you may need to worry about the other stuff too.

I am also 3 weeks post op and have lost 32 pounds total. I thought I was the only one going through the "funk". I have set goals for myself to walk my mile everyday and eat my correct amount of protien s well as fluids. I have not a single problem getting in my proteins but my fluids are another issue. Sometimes I am just not thirsty. I hve had several test to check for dehydration, since I have some underlying problems going on right now, and everything has been good! Even my iron is high!
The first week I was on B12 I did feel different but it was like once my body got used to it it just looked at it as another pill going into my body!
I wish you luck and hope all of us that are going through the "funk" are able to get out of it soon.
