When I met with my Nutritionist (at Surgeon's office) he said that after surgery, no fruits or veggies except for leafy greens like broccoli or spinich. Has anyone had this come up? He also said no juice or milk. I am wondering if I am getting the right advice?

No fruits or veggies for how long?  No milk or juice for how long?  Many docs recommend not drinking calories, so I understand the no juice or milk thing, or at least I understand limiting those things.  But what were his reasons?

Every surgeon has his/her own protocol for eating.  I am almost 8 months out, and I can eat pretty much anything including fruits and vegetables.  That being said, due to the fact that my new stomach can only hold a small amount, I focus on getting protein in first and then fill in with vegetables and fruits.

The milk I have heard mixed advice on in this forum - some allow no milk, some encourage it.  I drink 3 glasses a day and that is how I get a lot of protein in.  I don't drink juice because it is a lot of sugar and calories without adding any protein.

Is your nut saying no fruits or veggies EVER???

I don't remember the length of time, but I did get the impression that no fruits and veggies and no milk for the duration of the weight loss. I do remember him telling me that he too was confused on the frutis and veggies part but after he talked to the surgeon, he said because of the natural sugars they produce and the carbs.

You may need to limit those. I do - even now - 4 years post op.
I do eat veggies - the non starchy - mostly green veggies. But that include:
lettuce
celery
mushrooms
broccoli
cauliflower
peppers
cucumbers
yellow squash
cukini.
and some few more.  They are great, help with so many things.  They do not have sugars. They are the non -starchy veggies. What limits me eating more - is the gas thy produce after I eat them.  Not nice, and very painful. Some get literally stuck...

Milk - yea - for me that is too many sugars .  But low fat yogurt is - specially Greek - is great. Can't imagine life without it.

juice - these are out.  Unless I want to crash. Really nasty crash.

as for fruits : I do eat them and always have (except first 2-3 months post op). Some have too many sugars - some are great.  But I do eat maybe 1-2 servings of fruits per day. And that only get eaten in a meal - with proteins and fats.  Do not eat just carbs.  IMO -

Most fruits any many veggies have too many carbs for the beginning of your weightloss journey. You will only have room for small amounts and it should be protein focussed with a little veg that are non starchy like H.B. said.  When you get to maintenance you can explore adding more veggies and fruits until you get to a point where you have  good balance.  When you are in your honeymoon
period, low carb (not no carb - you'll get enough probably in your yogurt, green veggies, cottage cheese, cheese etc) will optomize your weightloss.

Oh, and I agree, don't drink your calories!

All the best!

But we need some carbs in our bodies.  And not all veggies are high in sugar.  I don't understand the reasoning there.  I would ask some more questions so you can have the information you need to decide what you want to do.

I was told mostly protein and little green leafy veggie. It just seems strange to take all fruits and veggies out.

It's not strange when you look at the functionality of your new pouch.  At such a tiny size, your body doesnt have space for it. You need to stay healthy in terms of protein, and there is no space for it.

My plan allows milk because it has protein, but the focus has to be protein for a long time.  Fruits as they are desirable and better choices than sugar sweets and hi fat foods, but they do not provide nutrients that are needed for health.

But focus on your goal, my previous eating plan did not lose my wieght, but my doctors plan is leading me to current great progress.  So remember, at some point your plan will modify, but research the negative effects of not getting your protein!

Good luck, and even though each doctor is different, but if you like the results he has ascertained for others, than you have to follow the plan

Fruits have plenty of nutrients that are needed for health.

Apples contain fiber, vitamin  A, potassium, calcium and other minerals we need for our health.

Blackberries contain fiber, vitamin A, phosphorus and other minerals we need for our health.

One slice of cantaloupe contains almost half of the RDA of vitamin A!  It also has potassium, vitamin C, and other vitamins we need for our health.

Pears contain lots of fiber, calcium, magnesium, folate and other vitamins we need for our health.
