My surgery is in 6 days and I am thinking of Sleeve instead of GB? HELP!
If you have serious doubts and reservations then of course I agree with the other posters, take this time to think about it. However, I think you need to just make the decision and go for it! I think you could spend months and months thinking about this and that's time you could have spent getting your life back. I really don't think you can go wrong with either of the two surgeries but I do have some thoughts I'd like to share with you.
I got the sleeve March 5th. I went for the sleeve for the same reasons that you listed...easier diet, easier surgery, nearly same weight loss. NEARLY only works if you are willing to keep the diet and exercise. I am 2.5 months out and I already want sugar, I want fast food, and I don't drink the protein shakes. I don't eat these things often, but I do eat them some times, which is more often then I would like to. It is easier to restrain from sugar then before but I still want it some times. I also have an easier time staying away from fast food but do so on occasion. A co-worker of mine had the RNY and she says she didn't feel hungry for nearly 2 years. I am hungry all the time. I have to eat every 3 hours. I also had pretty bad heart burn before the surgery and it is worse now. I think that gets better with the RNY. If you have major cravings for sugar and are not very disciplined with your diet, then I say go with the RNY. You will love it and hate it all at the same time. I am glad I got the sleeve mostly because I know that i would not have been able to consume the protein drinks and I do not like taking a lot of pills. But, I can tell that it is going to get harder to follow the diet over the next years. If it is this easy to get relaxed on this diet now I expect it will get even harder down the road!
I think you should just make the decision and do it. The nervousness will be there regardless of which you chose but come on, you are going to get your health back! Meditate on this and then make a decision and go for it. You will not regret it! and if you do, oh well...you'll live.
Think twice, cut once.
NSAIDs pose some risk for anyone. They thin the mucosal lining of the stomach, which can allow the stomach's own acid to cause harm, usually in the form of ulcers. You certainly should exercise caution, especially until you're fully healed, and if you've previously had ulcers you should definitely stay far, far away from NSAIDs.
