Stinking Sleep Study

So I went for my sleep study last night.  Beautiful room with view overlooking the 59th Street bridge and it's own bath. I'm in heaven.  TV with cable, loving it. And then they plug me in.

I'm a stomach sleeper.  Not a back or even a side sleeper.  My back killed me all night, I doubt I slept much (I think a total of 3-4 hours, tops) and to add insult to injury, wake up with a headache just short of a migrane.

I'm not happy, and my guess is they couldn't tell if I have sleep apnea even if I did because I barely slept.

FEH!

Hi, I know how you feel.  I fought going to the sleep study before my surgery!!!!  I used to fall asleep everywhere I went, the minute I got into a car and relaxed a little I would fall asleep.  When watching TV, I was famous with my family for falling asleep.  I thought it was normal, what did I know.  Its the best thing I every did.  They should have told you what they found out.  Even with 3-4 hours of sleep they could monitor you and find out about the sleep apnea.  They told me immediately what I did.  Call them and talk to them and found out what they found.  I am sure you have an appt. set with them so you can wait if you want.  They told me I stopped breathing I can't even remember the number they told me, like 80 times.  I have a CPAP machine now with oxygen, and I sleep much better.  No more falling asleep during the day!!  Please realize it will be worth it!!!  Good Luck!!!!!!

I had a sleep study years ago and it doesn't sound like mine was any easier than yours. I can commiserate. I didn't sleep worth a hoot, even though I am a side sleeper. It was miserable, and I woke up every couple hours.

They could not get a good reading from how little I slept..........it sucked!

Did they put a CPAP on you partway through?

If they did, they suspect sleep apnea.  If not, no.

But you can ask for informal results.

At my initial sleep study, they did not put a mask on me. I had to come back for a special study to find my CPAP setting. My OSA was categorized as "severe". Sleep study centers are like surgeons; they all do things their way.

Same with me, I have severe, but had to come back in and sleep with mask to determine my CPAP setting.

It depends on what the doctor orders.  I had an overnight study and then after confirmation of sleep apnea I had to return for a titration study.

When I had mine the techs weren't allowed to tell me the results.  Turned out I had pretty severe sleep apnea and now am using the CPAP.  Best thing ever happened to me...feel so much more rested, no headaches in the AM.

I did a sleep study overnight on May 13th and I slept about 3 hours and in the a.m. the sleep tech told me that I have mild SA. went back to the sleep dr. on may 24th and as soon as we walked in he said good news you don't need a CPAP and that it should resolve itself after the surgery! Good luck!

If you didn't sleep, chance are you do have sleep apnea.  I was given my results at a doctor's appointment and then had to come back for a second sleep study with a cpap machine.  I never did adjust to sleeping with the machine -- however, I didn't ever achieve REM sleep because I'd wake myself up beforehand.  Once I lost 85 pounds, I started dreaming wild dreams.  I haven't needed the cpap since.
